desert uniform washes
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 7:48 PM
im currently painting some modern us desert soldiers. ive tried a couple of different time to "wash" the uniforms...any suggestions? the modern uniforms are so light in color and seems like any attempt to create shadow results in a complete mess. any suggestions on color or types of wash or anything? thanks :)

By mess do you mean the wash is too stark or does it ruin the base colour underneath? I dunno - have you tried a lighter wash.....either more diluted or using a dark ochre colour instead of brown (definitely not black).

yeah, ok reading it now i guess it was a little vague...sorry. any wash. black or brown. but specifically im experimenting with burnt umber oil wash. perhaps im missing the point...not sure. as far as a lighter wash...any recommendations? perhaps my ratio of thinner to paint is wrong...not sure there either. still trying to get everything down where it looks presentable. anyways...thanx for the help :)

I used a darker tan mixed with a light tan to get my wash looking fair.
