I appreciate that, aj. I am still in the process of learning my Sioux ancestry, so I can't tell you for sure. I have heard possible Oglala or Brule'. I am also Cherokee and good 'ol white boy.
Thanks for the interest and respect. Nice work.

Thanks, 60. I do try to paint these figures with respect to the native cultures.

Do you know from which nation your ancestors came? Oglala, Dakota, Lakota, etc?

Al

Thanks for the heads up. I did an E-bay search and there are some good items out there.

ajlafleche, something I just thought of, You might want to get hold of a C.M Russell art collection book. There'll be excellent examples of plains indians costumes and faces. I was born and raised in Montana and we think he's simply the best.

Thanks, Reklein. Here's a link to my postings at Armorama. The dio mid-page is by Bob Tavis and was at the Long Island Figure Show.

Nice work, do you do a lot of these western style figures? By the way the scale on my stage coach is 1/9 and the figure was carved from basswood using an old time photo to develope my pattern.

Not only I'm impressed by your work, which is great as usual, but also by the speed you manage to make these masterpieces! Thumbs Up [tup]

Looks good Al.  I wouldn't want to meet him on the plains.  Good job as usual.

Sioux Warrior in 54mm

Here is the relatively new Sioux Warrior in 54mm. The shield design is based on one I found at Prairie Edge and features a Thunder Pony motif. The original base has been mostly coverd leaving only the canteen which had an longer strap added. The glove come from the Andrea Custer's Last Stand set and the straw hat, noted to have been worn by cavalry troops on the plains was cut from a head of unknown origin (a set I bought and forgot I had...Don't you hate when that happens!) The grasses are from Woodland Scenics and from a friend and the ground work is Celluclay. He was painted almost entirely in Andrea and Vallejo acrylics with a bit of oil wash here and there.
