Yet Another Indian Figure
Posted by ajlafleche on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 7:56 PM

Here is Seil's 54 mm Woodland Indian as sculpted by Alan Ball. He's painted in Andrea, Vallejo and Model Master acrylics. The feathers are fly tying feathers, a new type that required less work to cut down as they are just about the right width. Water is Woodland Scenics Water Effects and the stump is from Armand Bayardi. The gun stock has a coat of MicroScale Satin finish.

Thanks. Here's the key to my skills. Practice, practice, practice: I painted my first real figures nearly 30 years ago. Try to hook up with a group of figure painters. Attend figure based shows, if possible and attend any seminars offered. Because figure competition is based on the open system, there seems to be more willilngness to share techniques, since your getting bettter is not any kind of threat to the guy who's more skilled getting an award. If you ever get the chance to hear Alan and Marion Ball talk, do so. They are a great and talented couple. Read the figure magazines, yeah, I know, they're pricy. And did I mention practice? Keep track of your color and shading/highilighting recipes. Oh, yeah, practice.
