hey bobby nice looking dio you really dont see too much civil war on the forums. the only suggestion i would make is i would cut the bases off the feet of the soldiers and horses and glue them down to the terrain it would look much more natural. great work though cant wait to see more.

Thanks for the feedback and advice. This display is sort of temparry. When I get all 6 finnished I'm making a bigger one to display them all and will probably chop the bases off then. that'll really make it look better for sure.

Thanks. I made it in about 12 hours. The hill is sculpted with Wall Board Joint Compound. Hehehe. That stuff is going into my list of household usefuls. If this holds up long enough it will be used for something ealse I've had in mind. Though the ground cover is like blistered skin in some spots, it peels and tears off really easy, and in my hurry didn't use all the proper stuff and so its slightly tacky in some of hose areas... So we'll see how long it really lasts...

how long did you let the joint compound cure ? never used it for anything but sheetrocking but if you let it cure long enough it gets nice and hard and will last

It cured about 10 hours. I put it on, went to sleep an hour later, slept 8 hours, and an hour after I woke up started putting the ground cover on. It should be given 24 hours to cure. Maybe more since with this you'll probably have some spots that are thicker than on a wall. One spot I put it on fairly thick and it was still a little soft, and cracking a little. But yes if you let it dry all the way its about as solid as plaster. I remember a sheetrocking job and trying to get that stuff broken out of a bucket after 4 days sitting to dry. A few whacks on a rod of rebar into it busted out a 3 inch thick disk of it quite nicely :)

They are plastic figures made by Italeri. So far they have the best detail of the companies producing plastic 1/72 civil war peices. There historical accruacy on the Artillery Crew is off, but the sculpting and mold quality are superb.
