Well here goes... One of my few sorties out of the Aircraft area. I started my B-17 gunner today. One of the nice "all day at the bench" days. (Did some work on an airplane too)
I got the gunner mostly done. Had a hard time getting some of the pieces to fit... lots of carving and still some gaps. I remembered how I smooth the seams repairs on my planes and gave it a try here too. I thought it worked great. I loaded the gaps with white Squadron putty and took a small cotton cosmetic pad, soaked with acetone, and gently wiped the excess away. With pointy cotton swabs for the tight spots, it was real easy to match the contours of the surrounding folds. The primer revealed that there wasn't and sanding needed.
But now the questions. How do I do leather? I have some MM leather paint but it looks more like rust.
Here are some pics. Comments and, more important, criticisms welcome.
Something in the camera is making the gun look curved.... it is really straight.
