Its a tough call but I have 2 suggestions:

Perhaps a few smaller or thinner tertiary branches (on the top branch) of varying lengths to add to the already interesting features of the tree.

or one or two secondary thin branches on the lower branch. Anyway that's my 2 cents worth.

By the way as I said earlier it is already looking good. I really like the twisted look and texturing as well.

I've added more putty to show some root structure. This now stands at 80mm tall in a 54mm context, so its still a small tree. Anyway, do any of you guys think I should slap on more putty to the upper areas for balance, or keep its odd lookin' nature, which I kinda' like.

Personally, I think I could add a bit more of a bulbous and deformed look to the mid to upper areas.

I've already drilled a hole through one of the knots at the top, for another branch.

I've got this image of a dead tree. So you get the idea of what i'm after.

Nice one, Red. The pic' enforces what i'm doin'. Appreciate it.

As for the holes and such, its jus' what i've been doin' at the moment. I'm applyin' little blobs of putty here and there, workin' it into the bark, and formin' holes.

You know what, I may even drill a fair size hole jus' like the pic' suggests at the base.

Eddie heres a reference between a normal vs dead looking tree. I think it may help you out in ur work. Ur tree needs to look more rotten looking with holes as though some nasty insect is about to crawl out if you get close. The photo explains what I mean.

Good job.

Looks like Paris is out. I guess she'll publish her book after 40 days at home.

Thanks dudes.

Red, i'm not sure. I want this tree to be as perfect as I can get it before I add it to the groundwork of my hoplite.

Here is an update. More putty, more refinement. There are still areas on this that need attention, as regards to texturin'.

Does this go with ur Thespian hoplite? Looks good and I can't wait to see it finished.

Great job.

I thought I'd try my hand at sculptin' somethin' simple, somethin' that I may use on my next figure.

I wanted the look of a small dead and stunted, mediterranean olive tree. I still need to sculpt in a couple more branches, as well as some knots and knuckles on the bark.
