Okay, now I see what you're dealing with.

Narrow the eyes, especially on the lower lid by bringing the flesh up a bit more. Increase the size of the iris, to 1/2 to 2/3 of the socket. Now, this is something I learned from the guys who are my mentors. Look at the face in a mirror to see if the eyes are aligned. I don't know why this works, but it does, just like when you get a haircut, the barber is looking at you in the mirror, and not directly. Try for a glossier sheen to the eyeballs than you have on the skin. There's always some tear fluid there which will catch more light than the skin around it.

Take a look at my Joshua Chamberlain thread near this one. Some of the guys on another board had some nice comments about his eyes.

You need to post this picture online at a service such as photobucket in order for it to be seen. It can't be accessed if it's only on your computer's C drive.

I believe he means that the general shape of the eye we see when coverred by eyelids are NOT round but rather resemble slits...maybe you painted them too round and they seem to POP out...

I too am confused about the lines vs. dots comparison, but I have to agree that the 200mm line offers a steady handed modelr to paint in eyes fairly easily.

Can you post a picture?

He could mean that the eyes are flat, just a dot of black inside a dot of color.  In that case a small dot of white in the upper are of the color can actually give the impression of light being reflected off the eyeball surface, as it appears in real life.

good luck and please let us know how it works out for you.

I don't know what either of you mean by lines and dots, but at 200 mm you have a well defined eye opening. You should be able to get a fully detailed eye ball in there as in this boxart.

Now he may mean you should be trying for the sublte differences in color seen below

EYES ON FIGURES!

can any one give me some tips on painting eyes on figures?

i belong to a model club and the chairman keeps saying that the eyes on my 200mm bust of a wwII american pilot stand out like a sore thumb because they are dots rather than lines. is it true that you should paint lines instead of dots.
