Goon's Vinnie

A pal of mine recently went off on a wild tangent and built something other than a 72nd American aircraft or 144th airliner. (Seriously, that's all he really builds...)

We took a week last year to head on down to the NATS in VB, stopping along the way for several attractions; the first being Gettysburg. Despite his limited modeling-interests the Goon has a keen interest in Amercian history, especially the Revolutionary and Civil wars.

Anyhoo, some time late last or early this year he started raising eyebrows by making some strange purchases, including the DML 32nd Union soldiers set. I guess he was really inspired by walking around in various areas of the Gettysburg battlefield, especially our climb up Big Round Top. So here's the fruit of that inspiration, a vignette of some of the Union's finest earning their pay.

This was the Goon's first serious attempt at a diorama type deal, and although he had done some figures for a group consortium project in the past, it's also his first real serious attempt at figures. Not too awful shabby. And if you look closely, the guy on the right looks like Billy Mays (spelling?). You know, the Oxi-Clean king?!? Tongue [:P] I swear it really looks like 'im.

I took this shot at SVASMCON in PA, one of two shows we hit on the weekend of the 20th & 21st of September. Dave didn't do too badly for a first effort...

Very nicely done. As you said, you don't see alot of Civil War stuff out there. It's refreshing to see something new.

It is a nice kit there are four figures. i have quite a few boxes of them. I use them for both Confederates and Yankees. The dio is great looks like the 20th Maine on little Round top. During the filming of Gettysburg i was about 20 feet from where Jeff Daniels was standing during the filming. I got a bunch of autographs.
