Semi-gloss faces/hands
Posted by glweeks on Monday, July 23, 2007 4:27 PM

Having finished some 1/35 civil war figures and applied a final flat coat I need to go back in and and put a bit of semi-gloss on exposed flesh.  I used acrylic paint and was wondering if a blend of 1/2 future & 1/2 tamiya flat base would work.  What's your faviorate flesh final overcoat mix?   Thanks in advance for your help......

I simply leave mine flat. I've heard of some folks rubbing a finger on their forehead then on the figure. If you get your highlights and shadows right, you shouldn't need this.

In her step by step article/thread on the painting of The Last of the Mohicans, Marion Ball uses no glosses, though there are some oils used for finla touches. Click here for details.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Thanks for that link, I just added it to my favorites list.  I think I'll add some "head" oil to a scrap figure face first.  Reminds me of a Med. cruise I was on in 1968, some of the marines I was with who smoked pipes rubbed the wood in the crease where nose meets face, said it "lubricated the wood".  I don't know about that, but it made the outside shinier.  Some of the odd things you see in "the crotch".

                 thanks.....................    G.L.

I know it's off the flesh painting subject, but, this works other places too. Vinyl seats for example. Rub your nose then the seat and gives it the right sheen. LOL we as modelers even use our own body parts!
