Verlinden 120mm British Paratroopers Arnhem - Colors?
Posted by stevedb227 on Thursday, July 26, 2007 4:27 PM

Greetings.

The Verlinden figure set is of the British paratrooper carrying a wounded comrade.   It is one of those kits I wanted to wait until I had enough experience in painting faces before I ever tried to build it.   I have never attempted british uniforms before and want to get it right.   All the pics I have seen of this set seem to show the healthy paratrooper in a camo jacket and non camo trousers.   His wounded comrade seems to be in a khaki? battledress and trousers.   What colors should I use for the above?   I am open to either acrylic or enamel.   Also is there available any tutorials on the british patrooper camo style.

 Thanks

Steve

When you are up to your neck in alligators it is difficult to remember the original objective was to drain the swamp!

I have a good (but somewhat old) book on WWII uniforms that has some good plates of British paras at Arnhem.  I could scan and post if that would be helpful.

The Khaki wool serge battledress worn by the Brits in WWII was a greenish brown colored uniform. It is similar to olive drab, but certainly browner. Gunze, Andrea, and Vallejo all make an English Khaki that is a good starting point in acrylics. The jump smock was a three color camoflaged item. The base color was a tan to greenish tan with darker brown and  medium to dark green camo pattern. Run an image search for Denison Smock (the name of their camo smock) and see if you get any hits.
