SADF BUshwar Uniforms

What color/s would you use to paint the Nutria battle dress worn by SADF during the Bushwar in SWA/Namibia.  I was looking at Citadel graveyard earth, but another may work.  Any ideas?

Oddly enough, as I've been cleaning out and rearranging the house, my SOFs are by my right knee at this very moment!  No idea on the color-match tho.

Greetings Steelrudi

I think you will get the best match if you use Vallejo chocolate brown (149) and Vallejo green ochre (119) mixed in a consistancy of 4:1 (Chocolate:Green ochre). This will give you a pretty damn close match to the original. I have old SADF bush war uniforms in my collection and have matched this colour pretty closely.

I am curious. Are you an ex South African living in the states or are you just interested in the SADF bush war? In any event, it's refreshing to see modellers doing something different for a change. I wish the large scale manufactures would cotton on to the SADF theatre as that would make a refreshing change in different armour pieces to model!

I hope this helps!

Greetings from South Africa

Yup, I agree wholeheartedly!  Lotta stuff that ended up in SA started out as French, and thus was seen all over the world in many different hands.  (Panhard AML-series, for instance)  That would make for a LOT of new modelling opportunities and era's, outside of *just* SA (which is fully deserving of attention).

To the questions at hand.  No I am not a Sa ex-patriot.  I am however very interested in everthing military from South Africa, Rhodesia, and Portugese Angola and Mozambique.  Also the War in the Congo,60-65, and Biafra (Nigerian civil war).  As of now, I have 1/35 scale kits of fig's to convert (Alot of them) A Olifant Mk 1a MBT, a Buffel APC, a Ratel 20 ICV, and in 1/48 I have a few choppers and Planes.  In 1/72 I have a Ratel 90 and a G-5 with more stuff on the way.  I am also working on a Semel (pre-olifant mbt) and a Olifant mk1.  Many things to do!  Books of the conflicts are a must, and I have CD, and DVD's of the conflicts also some are impossible to get unless you have connections.  that is just a small bit of the stuff I am planning.  Others will follow in the future, (hopefully) and will be presented in due course.

Ok, the Olifant isn't too difficult, I can take a Centurion and some good photos and go to town.  BUT!!  In the name of ALL that is holy, WHERE did you get a Ratel and a Buffel?????  And how much did they COST??

In 1/72, you can get the AML-90 and -60.  In fact, there are listings for both up on ebay today.

From a friend in S.A. I am getting 1/35 Aml 90, and 60 from Azimut in france.  just alittle tweaking, and they too will become Elands.  They all be rather pricey.  All are in resin with interiors.  Need alot of clean up, but cleanup nicely they do.
