need info on Dragon's GSG-9 and Hong Kong SDU kits
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, September 3, 2007 12:49 PM

I'm trying to identify a couple of the weapons contained in these two kits.  Pics on ebay auctions are not doing it for me, so I'm turning here for help.  If anyone has the following two kits, I'd love pics or scans of either the assembly instructions or the parts sprues if at all possible - or the assembled figures in question!  The two ebay sellers are apparently not firearm savvy enough to id the rifles.

Hong Kong SDU, kit#6508

The cover illustrates two figures in tan/camo fatigues and rifles.  The guy in the bush-hat looks to have a PSG-1 and in the ebay pic I have, the guy in the ski-mask has another long-gun, but due to flash-reflection and the montage nature of the artwork, it isn't possible to determine exactly what he has.

GSG-9, kit #6505

Box-art shows the guyon the right holding a pistol and he appears to have another weapon slung under his right arm.  Seller on ebay confirms this.  What weapon is he carrying slung?

Can anyone help??

In regards to the Hong Kong SDU kit: It honestly looks like a mix of their old SAS kit, their SEAL team 3 kit (guys with the scuba gear on), and the US Snipers (but with a different head and both with PSG's it looks like).  The guy who is wearing the ski mask and appears to be kneeling has the PASGT body armor on...

I forgot where I saw this picture, but it was the box of four figures that was the another Hong Kong police team (The box art depicted them on a boat) and they were really close to the SEAL team 3.

Thankee - every little bit helps!  The SDU seller sent me the original (large) photo he took and the camo'd sniper is definitely NOT holding a G36.  Now, the cop in the raid-vest at 9-0'clock is holding a long gun and the nature of the artwork renders it totally illegible.  I'm betting it's an M16-type, tho.  I've got an email in to the info@dragon-models.com address asking if they've ever done a G36.  Maybe that'll net me something.  In the meantime, tho - anyone know about the GSG-9 guy?

Couldn't you ask the seller to open the box and photograph the gun sprues?  Just a thought.

They are both advertised as still shrink-wrapped, otherwise I'd do that in a heartbeat.

I have the GSG-9 kit in my stash and the slung weapon is the all around MP-5 if I remeber correctly the A5 version with retacting stock. BTW the gun is also from H&K it's the tiny P-7.

Nver saw the other kit before; it looks like it's a combination of the SAS kit with two SEALs from the SEAL kit and two snipers from the Sniper kit (OOPS it's already been said!). Having al of these kits the "ski-mask-guy" should be carrying a M-21 but it doesn't look like that.
My best guess is H&K's MSG-90 sniper rifle.
The "9-o-clock-raid-vest-guy" is carying an MP5-A3 with retracted stock, so no long bore rifle.

You can find box-top and sprue pics on LuckyModel's site, if this is any help.

Wow - thanks, guys!  That Lucky Models site will make things easier on my Dragon-hunting quests in the future.  And Avus - watch out, I'm liable to pick yer brains on these "oddball" Dragon kits now!

Frex, did they ever make one to your knowledge with a G-36 included?  Is the GSG-9 sniper's head molded separate?  That beret and radio-headset looks right nice...

It looks like shotguns are Remington 870 and Benelli.  I may have to get these kits just to get those shotguns.

The Hong Kong SDU is the same basic kit as their modern SEAL Team 3 kit.  The only difference looks to be the heads are swapped on the two BDU-clad guys and one has a shotgun as opposed to an M60 as in the SEAL Team 3 set.
