Large scale wargame Monster Eagle by Reaper

Hi everyone

This is a Reaper Miniatures Monster Giant Eagle (stock 14086 in the current catalog if you are hunting it down) that I knocked out for my sister in law. It is a wargaming figure compliant with the Reaper games and falls under the Elves series of minis. Anyway I was asked to get it together and prime it. The gaps for both wings and the left leg were monstrous, an the tail unit was not really the same overall shape as the rest of the lower body and I had to do some grinding to get it close to fitting. Once epoxied in these gaps were filled with Tamiya smooth Epoxy putty. I really enjoyed using it, it was my first time using that particular product, but I easily got the effect I wanted.  The tail unit is the most recognizable part of the project as being re-worked, but, this IS for tabletop play and not for IPMS competition.

Base coat Citadel black spray, heavy glaze of Flesh Wash allowed to dry overnight with a two tone drybrush of Golden Skin and Golden Skin highlight.  The feather effects and sculping are great!  I took the standard slottabase and busied it up with rock/dirt/s_grass and knocked out the basic details Eyes are dark orange but it does not show in this pic. Anyway I prsented it to her last night, she can add to the current paint or RPG it as-is.  Frankly I really enjoyed the project, it is a very good likeness of common eagles, but the tang for the slotta base at the tail is the real weak (literally) point of the kit.    Total time was about three hours on Saturday watching UFO episodes and adding the wings/ leg then pushing the epoxy putty around, then the paint process, a few more episodes for that.  Wingpan is around 7 inches and its quite topheavy!

Looks good David.  That's a huge piece for the War Game table.

Hi Rick

yeah its pretty big. I love the Reaper mini  dragons, I dont know if they are truly playable but they are pretty darned nice figures! I have an old Ral Partha dragon and I would have to say that the sculpting on these is better.  I dont RPG so I dont know how those wingsare going to affect banners and the like!
