My 1/35 figure
Posted by ww2modeler on Saturday, January 12, 2008 11:13 AM

A US Army infantry man. From the Tamiya set. I am almost done with the jacket which I am painting with Tamiya Khaki thinned (it took me 4 coats to get where I am now) I tried doing some shading along the zipper line. The head is being replaced with a DML one. He will carry a Tommy gun when done. Any Comments and Crits welcome.

Thanks for looking,

David

That's one Ancient kit.  I remember getting set of it in late 70's and early 80's.  I have it in my stash as well for the memories.

Anyway, it looks like you are turning it into something really nice.  Keep us posted with your progress!

Are his legs painted white? Or did you paint his whole body white then added the Kahaki.

Thanks for the comments. I primed it light grey/white, I'm not sure what I'm painting the legs yet. There was alot of flash on the arm that took some time but the other one was perfectly fine.

Thanks for the input,

David

Okay, got the pants and boots painted and attached the head. Theres some putty showing at the back of the head which needs some cleanup, also I havn't finished the head completely. The helmet is ready.

Heres some pics. Again, comments and crits welcome.

Thanks,

David

Your colors look very dusty, almost like you did a reverse wash with lighter colors showing up where shadows should be.

If you're going to be painting figures, you might want to consider moving away form Tamiya paints. They have been formulated for airbrushing. For the last several years, I've used Vallejo and Andrea paints apmost exlussively. They were designed specifically for the figure painture and are very brush friendly.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

I agree...your colors are translucent; the plastic is showing through...with the right paints you should be able to cover the primed fig in two coats...I use Humbrol enamels...

Thanks for the comments, how do you achieve the shadow affect. I have the vallejo flesh tones set coming in the mail.

Go here then click on Miniature and Model Color and scroll to thh bottom. There's an excellent tutorial on highlighting and  shading with acrylics.

Sorry to say but time and practice are your new friend. I still do not paint figures well but I am getting better. I read every book and web site I could  get my hands on. and I even used plastic toy army men for comparing the different techniques I saw. Dont give up. You will get where you want to be. good luck. Everyone started where we are.
