flesh tone practice
Posted by Dougums on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 5:39 PM

I recently purchased a 250mm  Manfred von Richthofen bust from Squadron and I must say it is an outstanding looking chunk of resin.  The last thing I want to do is apply a poor flesh tone.  So I practiced on an extra 1/16 head.  I first airbrushed Tamiya flesh, then dabbled on the oil paint.  I am new to this so any criticism is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Doug

I haven't used oils in several years since I fully converted to Andrea/Vallejo acrylics.

Looks like you put too much oil on. See how it's kind of lumpy? There's an excellent feature here on using oils over acrylics.

I think the irises of the eyes need to be wider. They almost look reptilian. There should be a bit less white. Also, I can't tell, but you want to use an off white with a pinkish tone for the whites.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

ajlafleche,

The link looks like it will be very helpful.  I did notice the lumps of paint but wasnt to sure how it could be prevented.  Now i know Smile [:)]  The eyes do look small.  Thanks for taking the time to help.  Your input is much appreciated.
