Yoko From Gurren Lagann ***Completed***
Posted by gamerabaenre on Monday, March 3, 2008 4:41 PM
I started working on this kit last month, it's a 1/4 scale resin kit of Yoko from the anime Gurren Lagann.  There were a good number of pinholes revealed during the surface prep so a couple of rounds of sanding/priming/puttying was needed to get things ready for paint.  I was also disappointed in the stock rifle barrel, so I made some modifications.  I also made some adjustments to the skin tone batch I have off comments to the Young Hip Cover Gal's skin tones.

Click here for the complete progress so far.

Here are some excerp pictures:
Size comparison with the kit and the 1/100 G3 Gundam when I had her pinned up, big kit.

Looks really cool.
I'm really interested in your paints.

What kind of paints are you using?

The paints I've been using on her are lacquer based.  The skin tones are mixed using gunze sangyo's Mr Color line of paints: white base, character red, orange yellow, sky blue, and brown.  The pink stockings are a mix of another lacquer brand called Finisher's which is a mix of lumi pink and white - the lumi pink has some pearl effect to it.  The gun was base coated with Finisher's pure black and then alclad jet exhaust was sprayed on top.  For the arm stocking, I used Finisher's pure black, and sprayed a mixture of future floor polish and interference violet pearl ex powderes over the gloss black to get a sparkly violet effect in certain light.  The gold for the chop sticks are Finisher's Red Gold.  The primer used is Gunze Sangyp's Mr Resin Primer which is also a lacuqer based product.

I painted the smaller hair pieces last night, and I'll post some photos later tonight.  For the rest of the kit, I plan to mainly use Finisher's paints.

I think with my most recent order in from E2046 I have most of these colors or similar equivelants, I will give your blend a go on Hurahi and a couple of other figs. Have a couple of small scale Ayna Zahali's  to try it on as a base.  Do you know what the proportions are? I figure a small bit of the blue is going to go a long way towards warming the tone.

The basic start point is 8 parts white base, 1 part yellow, 1 part red, and just a touch of the blue.  From there, I go to balance things.  Since I only do this when I mix up a big batch, I don't have an exact formula, sorry.  But at least I have an actual start point :D

Thanks!  I'm glad the skin tone came out well.  I mix a rather large batch of the stuff, so it is a good thing that I don't have to fiddle with it anymore for my next set of kits that the paint should cover. :D
