1/48 Japanese Zero Pilot

Thanks for the tip.  I started learning about the glazing technique.  It just might be the answer to some of my problems.  A little time consuming but if the results are better ... why not.  I'll try anything

1/48th figures are hard to get right in any style. Try lighter coats and several washes.

    Thanks for your input.  I had a little trouble finding refrence photos of a Japanese pilot, I kinda just winged it.  I will give the flesh wash a try, sounds like a great technique.  Thanks again.

Photgrapghing 1/48 figures is always going to exagerate mistakes because of the high degree of magnification.  I'm sure the figure looks better to the eye.  The green for the harness is fairly close to that actually used in some of the IJN service.  Faces in 1/48 are really difficult to detail paint & blend unless you're a very talented artist.  I find blocking in the basic colors & then blending it by applying washes of Citadel Flesh Wash wil give very acceptable results in both 1/48 & 1/72 .

Yes, I think a 3/0 brush would make a big difference.  I dont know about that green for his harness either.  Have you seen reference photo with that colour ?  Do you have a magnifier ? well worth the cost IMHO.  Play around with the skin colour- he look a bit caucasian. The scarf looks the same silver as the harness buckles ?  The first 1/48 figures I painted looked OK to the naked eye (Superfortress Crew)  But when I took some close up shots- eew!  The camera can be fairly brutal at that magnification.  Keep at it !
