The reviews of sets featuring 1/72 WWII Germans dressed in M36 tunics and in combat poses that I did during last two months could not end without a short intro to one of the most expected sets on the same topic, namely Pegasus Hobbies' "German Army Infantry 1939".
Nevertheless, the content of the set is well-known, the company releasing the same set in 1/76 scale as well. In fact, its appearance in the 1/76 scale was accidentally, and the first intention of the manufacturer was to release a 1/72 set.
Happily, these figures are not lost for 1/72 scale, due to the fact that Pegasus Hobbies announced their intention that in the future to produce this set in the first intended scale, 1/72. The set will be made of hard plastic, the same material being used for their 1/76 figures as well as for "German Mortar Teams", so conversions and customization will be at their home here. These will be facilitated both by the material and the multi part approach, the set offering the chance of plenty customization and a greater number than the "standard" 21 may be attained from the duplicated poses.
Not only the high quality of poses and details, but also some interesting weapons such as MG15 and Kar 98K with Gewehrgranatgerät attached to it make from "German Army Infantry 1939" a superior set that will doubtless meet the exigencies and aspirations of the 1/72 collectors, diorama builders and wargamers. The set will definitely bring with it the genuine atmosphere of combat through extremely energetic and highly detailed figures.
The present figures are some early test shots of the next 1/72 set, the market quality being improved, little upgrades of details following to be done at several poses, different than those from the 1/76 set. These test shots were made of soft plastic, but as mentioned above, it seems that the final product will be in hard plastic.
The photos try to compare similar 1/72 poses versus 1/76 ones, as well as compatibility with a figure from another 1/72 set and I chose two Imex soldiers. I have only these three 1/72 poses from the future set, but it is still something and you will like to see the new size of the future set, a size that is for sure at 1/72 and compatible with a lot of other offers in the scale.
I hope you will enjoy these soldiers and I have to admit that I look forward to seeing the entire set in the 1/72 scale as soon as possible, for sure it will be one of the best on the matter.
I would also like to warmly thank Mr. Larry Thompson from Pegasus Hobbies for sending me these samples.
