I keep looking at a lot of the figures on here and around the web, and I see a lot that I like, but man, are they small!!  I converted say, an 80mm figure and it was just a little over 3 inches.  That figure was 50 Bucks!!!  Am I getting something wrong here?

That also depends on who makes the figure, and what they are made out of. There are 90mm and 120mm figures to be had for less.

In addirion to increase costs of material and transportation, the dollar is shrinking against the Euro and most figures come from Europe.

Correct.  There are 25 millimeters in an inch.  80mm would be a little over 3".  100mm would be 4", etc.

You get what you pay for.  I rarely quibble over the price if the quality of the casting is good.  Andrea, White, and some of the other manufacturers are pricey, but the quality is very, very good.  I love the old Barton and Poste Militaire figures but those are getting harder and harder to find.

White metal figures will almost always cost more than resin due to casting methods and materials.
