P.E. and Paper-Models .
Here's some more tidbits for you modelers who have the courage to try one of these . Plus if you have a sustained stay in a health facility it works good because this way you don't get bored with the pap on the T.V. or your roommates groans and complaints . Plus it's mostly allowed !
Now here's where it does get interesting . How many of us who do plastic like there's no tomorrow would like this challenge ? Take a paper model and make it as sharp as your plastic creations ! Gosh , I wish I could post pictures ! I don't seem to understand English when it comes to this thing .
Anyway . Did you know you can enhance the paper model you would build to make it look as fantastic in the detail department as any other ? YES , You can use resin and P.E. parts ! You just have to adjust for the weight on decks or aircraft firewalls . I suggest this .
Try an American or British plane ( Spitfire or Mustang ) or ship ( Destroyer or Heavy Cruiser ) Build the basic model , and then decide how you are going to detail it out . P.E in the office of that Mustang would be Killer ! Then the shipbuilder .Think of all the rails , ladders , guns etc. you can mount out of P.E.
I do wish there was more armor and cars out there , But , I thing it's because of lack of interest , or the companies figure plastic has that pretty well covered . I tried one car . A 1/32 Mitsubishi Montero . With the curves on the body in critical areas , it was a bear for only having seven pieces not counting the wheels and tires .
This is where I taught myself the trick with spoons and tepid water in a spritz bottle . I did do a Buckley D.E. out of paper " Off the pages " so to speak .I used the set from TOM'S Modelworks .The Generic stairs,ladders and rails . In 1/400 scale . Most folks liked it better than my Dragon Plastic model that had the same detail !
Remember the movie " The Enemy Below " With Robert Mitchum and Kurt Jergens ? That's where I got my liking for this type of fighting ship .That paper model was done again .With the sub under it's forepart in a dio just like the scene in the movie , Where Mitchum , Tired of the battle , finally Rammed the sub to close the conflict .Both ships , by that time were mortally wounded anyway .
I gave it to a friend who was into the Atlantic sea war History . His widow still has it ! All detailed and battle damaged with resin and P.E. Details . So you see there is a place for them too . Model On ! Tanker - Builder I forgot something for the plane guys .You can use anyone's Vac - U - Formed canopies on paper planes too !
