Working on that new Paper model yet?
Here's one tip for modelers of paper subjects. I am posting it here because it doesn't concern the usage of the materials for plastic.
There is this. When you are doing a full hull card or paper ship with a full hull you can get the bottoms a lot smoother without the oil-canning sometimes present.
As you well know we can spray our card models with Craft Clear Flat or Semigloss to stabilize it against humidity. Well I found a new use for Tamiya White putty. When you have all the bottom plates mounted, check for smoothness and true shape.
You can achieve a smoother Bottom with this putty applied very thinly over problem areas. then sand Gently! By doing this you improve the finished looks AND the hull is actually stronger!
Before you do this though, Make sure, that you've mixed some paint that matches the printed bottom color. Apply ONLY with a brush and also make sure it is preferably Acrylic( The type that cleans up with soap and water!).
Tip number -Two. You have a lot of windows. A Ferry Boat or something like that. or just wheel-houses. That is my trademark in any scale. A Detailed Wheelhouse. Even in 1/700 plastic! So 1/400 or 1/250 paper( Card) is a pushover.
When you cut out the parts make sure the insides you have to make, match the outsides perfectly Then using .010 sheet acrylic or styrene create a sandwich with the two sheets of card with the clear sheet trapped in the middle.
Glue all together AFTER Bringing it to shape before the glue dries and the final shape is achieved. Viola" Clear windows where you cannot see how you did them. No stripe visible inside!
Tip number - Three: Be careful. Especially if you work in plastic too. X-Cel blades are thinner than X-Acto blades. They will twist when you don't realize it and leave you with a sloppy cut line.
