Revel Viper

Well I decided to knock out a kit sometime before i leave for Hawaii.

So because this kit is cheaper then most I decided to play around and learn some things.

First off is new panel lines. Sanded of all the old stuff and started anew. I will not be putting them back on canon but the way I think looks good. I'm using Dymo tape, scribing templates, and a straight edge. Taking it slow and steady, so far I do not have many corrections to make.

got a little styrene work done. I used some aves that i rolled out and used brass rod and square to cut out shapes then let them dry. CA them on then sand to proper thickness.

LOL! No joke, I just spent the last few days rescribing the panel lines on one of these, using those exact same sanding sticks to remove the old raised lines.

I very much look forward to watching your progress, and hope it goes easier for you than it did for me.

update

Put some paneling on the fuselage itself. I used a tip I found in FSM. I used some tape and masked my panels. Then i used about 5 light layers of primer to build up the panel. Worked great till i put my thumb in but ill fix it later.

Well i finally finished the sanding. Ill get a primer coat on tomorrow afternoon after work. Then i should be able to knock what seams and such i missed then decide on a paint scheme.

Here it is all together. The engine part will be painted separately then added. The canopy has been covered in future and waits its turn to be masked off.

Almost there.  Here are the gun mods. Once it is all dry and sanded it gets to go to primer time.
the crocked one is all fixed now.

Well here she is. A improved MK 1 Viper to the D model. This baby currently has no home battlestar but has been conducting its trails from three different BSs in a couple of hot spots to really put her through the paces.

Additions..
-improved avionics
-improved canons
-improved maneuverability using prototype RCS thrusters
-improved ECM coverage
-prototype camouflage
-Darkened Cockpit glass(can look out but not in)
-added armor plating in know weak areas
-improved engines

What a build!!! Everything went pretty good till it was time to paint. Everything went wrong that could. Bad primer, bad gloss, shitting dullcoat, fraked up wash, crappy future. I didnt even try decals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So i gave up and said its done. I already plan to build another one. I may have time to knock it out now that I know what I want to do.  The next one will have all the mods but in a traditional paint scheme so i can use all the decals I bought.

Better Pics soon I promise.

Hi ssgkopp,

Pity about the paintjob, the build is sweet! Who makes the in-scale base for the Viper? I was thinking I'd have to scratch it.

Okay, let's get this straight -- this is the Revell-Monogram Viper, no cockpit -- therefore the old edition, plus a dio base by Starship Modeler? It looks fabulous, I can see one on my own shelf -- I had meant to do this at studio scale as a scratchbuild, then Warp (or was it Wave?) came out with it as a kit. The call of the subject is amazing, no matter what!

BTW, sskgop, could we see the rear end of the launch ramp, and the way the engines associate with the tall structure?

Wow, there are some amazing accessories for the Viper around these days!

It does have a cockpit (new release viper) but I was having fits with the future I had onit an then it didnt want to tint right so I just hit it with flat black and made it a black canopy mod.

I plan on taking more pics soon.

Shame about the paint job.  Perhaps if you strip it and repaint?  I think she was lookin' awesome up to that point.  I hope you can get it fixed 'cause that would've been a definite awesome buildup if the paint hadn't fouled up on you.  Especially after all that detail work you did on it!
