Are these two kits any good?
Posted by RichardI on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 5:21 PM

I have never built a sci-fi model, but the place I get my models (on line) is advertising two kits from Lost in Space - an old sci-fi TV show I used to watch when I was a kid. Anyway, the two models they have are the "Space Pod" and the land vehicle they had, which looks really cool. I think I would enjoy building and keeping these models - if they are any good. I think the kit maker is called Mobeius? Any body know anything about these two kits?

Thanks,

I think you'll like both, if you were a fan of the TV show. Both kits have received very good reviews. See here for reviews:

I picked up the Chariot kit today. I'm an armor modeler but I loved that show as a kid and when I saw the Chariot at the LHS, well you know the rest. I would definitely recommend opening the kit when you get it home and separating the vinyl parts from the plastic. In my kit the front 'fender' was distorted by the tracks and one of the tires was stuck to the underside of the floor. Nothing that can't be easily fixed, but it could have been worse if they had been in contact with other parts.

Now if Aztekdummy only comes out with a masking kit for all that glass I'll be set.

Edited to say that Aztek has the masking kit out. It's available at Starship Modeler for $19.95. Yes that seems a little high to me too but I think it'll take some of the aggravation out of painting so I went ahead and ordered one.

Wow! $19.95 for a masking kit? I won't be getting one of those any time soon. I use Tamiya tape or Parafilm M for masking most of my stuff (airplanes). If you use tape, just put a little water into a bottlecap along with a drop or two of dish soap. Either brush the water/soap mixture on the model before using the tape, or dip the tape into the water. Either way, it will give you some "slide" to the tape and allow it to be easily positioned before really burnishing it in place.

Thanks for the heads-up on opening the kit as soon as I get it - I'll certainly do that.
