1/100 SCALE Macross Tamahawk Destroid WIP
Posted by Puma_Adder on Monday, October 20, 2008 7:53 AM

I found these at my LHS for 735 yen each and could not resist my favorite Macross/Robotech mecha. And it's in 1/100 scale to boot! That fact is going to make posing them with my Master Grade Gundam kits that much more fun. cant wait to build and paint them. here are some pics...

Hey Jason.  Very nice find, I hope you do it better then that one image (not the box art).  So your going to pose this with your gundam eh'?  Cross breeing anime now, heh.  I have been tempted to get some of those 1/144 scale starwars gashapons they put out, in hopes to get a few X wings, or Ties, and then do a 1/144 gundam (whichever fits) in starwars colors.

The starwars thing would be cool! you should try it. maybe you could use the RX-79[G], as thats the most star wars-y looking. that and I think it would look awesome painted in that patch work paint job most rebel fighters have

as for this kit, I don't know what colors I am going to use just yet. I am going to have to hand paint alot of it due to its lack of detail in some areas. the dang thing does not have opening missile bays like the box art depicts. however, all the joints on the tiny bot move. for all that this kit lacks, I still look forward to the build because unlike my gundam kits this requires me to do more than simply snap and forget, it will take time and glue and sanding.

also, this may make for interesting conversation on wether or not this guy has the firepower to take on a zaku.

later!

Unfortunately for you, I got the last two Tamahawks. Sad [:(] But on the up side they had 3-4 Phalanx destroids and 2 VF-2SS Valkery 2 kits all 1/100 scale. also has a good selection of the 1/72 scale kits for macross as well.

Where's that envy emoticon?

Not a fan of the Valkyries. Which one was the Phalanx?

I really wish they would release these kits with new molds and new tooling.  They keep doing the VFs in fighter form and battleroid form... but no Gerwalks (which I love) and none of these ones like the phalanx, I want my non VFS! (Im particularry fond of... I dont know the name of it... ah. here it is http://www.mahq.net/mecha/macross/zero/hwr-00-mk1.htm

The original TV version of this was kitted in the 80's in 1/200 by Imai and 1/160 by Arii. Both are long OOP and go for crazy money these days. This version differs from the one in your linked pic, having triple tube launchers in the arms, rather than the "stablilser" (well that's my description for it) system as seen in Macross Zero. Though the 1/160 kit is bigger, the 1/200 kit is better, having sharper detail and is better proportioned.

It has also been available in 1/144 in resin form, again for crazy money.

I'd like to see a kit of the Macross Frontier version, the VB-6 "Konig Monster"

Just got a couple of these myself, along with a 1/100 Phalanx, variable 1/72 VT-1D, and 1/100 Officer pod in an ebay auction.  With the spares I already have, I've been planning on some different paint schemes including tan and dusty metallic bronze ( different art suggests both colors to me ) and a "Natasha Kerenski Black Widow Special" from the Battletech universe.  I keep telling myself I'm about done stocking up on Macross kits, but then these offers come along and give me ideas...
