Anyone else caught that trailer?  I saw it at Quantum of Solace last night and it is going to be AWESOME to see this prequal just based on the scenes and special effects shown.

I saw the screened version on youtube after you mentioned it.  The HQ version will be on the official site tomorrow afternoon, my only real question is.. where did kirk get a 1960's Covette and why did he drive it off a cliff? O_o;

Ok, saw the trailer and have a few concerns.

1) Even with Abrams in charge, this IS an odd-numbered Trek movie.

2) It looks like the production designer for Galaxy Quest was hired and went too far IMHO in changing the set design.  I was ready to deal with a updated version of the classic, not a complete re-imagining to the extent I saw.

3) Enough with the lizard-scale-texture costume fabrics already!  First Spidey, then Supes, now Trek?  Are the Sleestaks secretly taking over the realm of comic book/scifi costumes?

4) The token "hobby-related" so I'm not completely off-topic: I hope the plans on the kit release changes since they're using the "Re-Imagined" 1701.  Last I heard they were just going to re-release the old TV version as a kit tied in to the movie.

In short, I'll be in line to see it even at theater prices.  I will reassure myself by repeating "Shatner wasn't in charge so it can't be another ST5."  I can't bring myself to believe it will break the curse of the odd-numbered Trek movies or completely shake the suspicion that Paramount's trying to kill off the franchise once and for all.

Not trying to bring everyone down or anything, but from that trailer I'd rather go into the theater as a pessimist and be happy about being wrong ( much better than being a disappointed optimist IMHO ) after seeing the movie.

The trailer gives me pause to say the least.  I'll see it but I agree with the previous post.  I'd prefer to be pleseantly surprised than dissapointed.  Baby Kirk seems a little too far back to go IMHO, Corvette or not.

The re-release of the classic AMT kit from the 1960's is a matter of existing tool.  I will not speculate if there may be a kit version of the new 1701, but Playmates will have a toy of it, such has already been announced.  The little Polar Lights 1701 is also back on shelves (a FAR superior kit in all respects!).

Paramount is attempting to break the curse by having no number at all IN THE OFFICIAL TITLE.  It is called, "Star Trek".  However, The Motion Picture did not have a number, yet most people number it "1" and give the odd-number curse.  I have to disagree, though, in that I love The Motion Picture, I think it was the most Trek-like of all the movies.

If Paramount were really intent on burying Star Trek, they would have put Rick Berman in charge again.  WHAT A HACK!!!  THAT is the man who nearly killed the franchise.

Finally, if you can't get behind all the changes J.J. Abrams is making, the original series is available for download through iTunes for $2 an episode.  No one is taking them away from you.

I have to agree with this.  I think Rick Berman had good intentions but he did not have the same insight as Gene Roddenbury.  I too liked Star Trek: The motion Picture and Star Trek II even if they  screwed up with Khan knowing Chekov.  I wish would like to see a re-release of 1701-A.

I have not seen any trailer yet but just to see the 1701 in a Motion Picture but to see 1701 is worth it.  That is just me.  I was 4 years old when I started watching Star Trek and I just fell in love with star ships.  Even today, I love seeing the new look of star ships in the movies.  IMOO, I think it would be nice to see a full length movie about Deep Space Nine but leave out any mention of war with the Dominion.

I look forward to any type of models coming out of this movie.  I missed out when they models came out for the other movies.  Either was in the Navy or out of money, TMI, sorry.
