MPC X-Wing - Light it up - 9 Images
Posted by wingform84 on Friday, November 21, 2008 8:34 PM

Made from a MPC/ERTL Return of the Jedi X-Wing Fighter kit and the lighting kit from voodoo fx.  This was the first time I ever did soldering, and it was honestly a pain getting it into those tiny holes Dead [xx(] Overall it took me around a month, but most of that was the wiring/cutting because the actual kit went together really easily.  That pilot figure is a pain, I swear is the exact same as the driver sitting in my 1:24 scale Buick Lola Indy Car.  Weathered/battle damaged.  First time I ever really used my airbrush instead of a spray can too.  Built for a good friend's Christmas present since she's like obsessed with Star Wars and admires my models.  Feedback is of course welcome.

That's the best I can do as far as shots of it turned on, my camera isn't good in the dark Censored [censored]

And I really wonder why they made the star at the base of the stand two peices... Confused [%-)]

Looks great! My only rub is the lighting in the cockpit looks like a strobe light is in there. Maybe you could tone the lights down a little with paper filters?

The lighting does kinda mess with the pictures. But the exaust/afterburner affect looks spot on! Very well done!Thumbs Up [tup]

Warmest regards,

Roger

I agree, the lighting in the engines looks great, like there's a little afterburner firing.

If at first you do succeed, try to hide your astonishment.

Very nice! I agree with what has been said before me though, the cockpit lights are to bright, but the thrusters are perfect!
Some people spend their whole lives wondering if they made a difference. Gundams don't have that problem.

Wow, that takes me back. This was like the third kit I ever built. I had forgotten about the wobbly stand.

Not bad for a first time airbrush job. Are you hooked now? Cool [8D]

I got one of those big Pro Modeler light and sound X-wing kits, but I haven't built it yet. Any insight or tips on wiring or lighting one of these?

Thanks for the input, I'll have to see what I can do about that cockpit light.  I thought it looked kinda bright too but didn't really know of a way to fix it

Cosmic J - The best thing I can say about the lighting kit is...  be patient.  I don't know if the one that comes with the pro modeler kit requires a lot of soldering but that was honestly the hardest part.  Since it came with it I doubt you'll have to do as much removing parts as I did, by the time I was done there were plastic shards everywhere XD  I do love the airbrush, and it definately opens some new opportunities to me.  I actually bought it to be able to make more unique colors for my cars but thought it would work great for the damage on this one.
