UFO MODELS
Posted by SNOOPY on Monday, November 24, 2003 4:39 PM
Does anyone remember the series, UFO (I think that is what it was called)? It came out a little before Space: 1999. It had some cool Sci-Fi spaceship and earth vehicles. I was wondering if any manufacturer ever created models from that show?

I loved UFO, especially that theme music. Comet models has a UFO interceptor and a few others. Imai made a Sky 1 and a Mobile, but OOP. I think Wave made Skydiver and there may be an incarnation ot that floating around. Try Federation models for the Comet stuff, or E-bay for the rest.

Hey, I finally reached 100! Woohoo!

I too loved UFO - and I have most of the episodes on videotape! There were some truly
imaginative things there; Skydiver and Sky 1 have to be my favorite. And the actual UFOs
looked truly alien, with that cool noise they made!

Now you're talking!!!

UFO the best thing next to classic Trek.

Models:

Interceptor: was made by Bandai OOP, different GK kit can be had.

SID: was put out in small scale resin/white metal (companies escape me at the moment)

UFO: was put out by SHED models OOP I think and limited release by Bandai a looong time ago. The kit is woefully inaccurate though and is vacform and white metal. I did scratchbuild from the Phil Rae blueprints that blow it away. I was supposed to put it out as a kit but never go round to it. I'll post a pic of it if interested.

Lunar Module: put out by Lark, Wave, and Reshape.

Lunar module w/ carrier: Lark models

Moonbase: was originally put out by Bandai when they released the styrene UFO kit. Imai rereleased it in a toyish for kit just before they went OOB.

Shado Mobile: Bandai original, Imai reissue, OOP
Plug: I have a conversion set coming out for this kit to make the Command Mobile (resin, phtoetch, and decals)

Sky 1: various scales/sources, original Bandai, reissue Imai OOP

Skydiver: Not sure of the original but it was put out by Wave and Reshape

I know of no other kits ever made (unfortunately) of the other cool stuff lke Segull X-Ray, Shadair SST, etc. If any does know.....let me know will ya :)

You can still find some of the models on ebay. I think the Bandi sky one will run about $25 up to about $120 for the Interceptor. I think a set of planes to scratch build a MoonMobile are on the web. Also check out http://ufoseries.com/ not a bad site.

UFO was one of my favorite TV programs, I've got both seasons on DVD - as well as all of the episodes you get some great extras.

I jumped all over those DVD's,lol, the bandai Sky 1 is harder to get although it matters not The Imai is a direct repop of the Bandai. They are more plentiful and cheaper. Most of the cheaper kits you will find are the Sky1, Shado Mobile, now and again the Moonbase as they were cleared out at a reduced price form retailers when Imai announced the "great" news to us all.
