Very, very nice work! Nice detailing.

I have an VF-1A  and a VF-1D in the stash and was looking for some inspiration and now I got it.

DesertRat
Definately awesome work, Allan! I'd really ove to add one of those to my stash! Any idea if hey make em for 1/48 scale?

Actually for the longest time the only way to get a 1/48 scale kit was in resin.  However for the 25th anniversary of the Macross series and based on the success of the 1/48 YF-19 kit, there is a 1/48 injection molded kit of the VF-1J/A kit from Hasegawa is due for release in Japan in July 2010.

1/48 scale VF-1J/A kit - July 2010

1/48 Scale YF-19 kit - September 2009

1/48 Scale VF-19A Lightning Squadron kit - July 2010

http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10114609

Judging by Hasegawa's past releases, it's fair to expect them to be releasing all their licensed Valkyries in 1/48 scale.  Which would include the YF-21, VF-0 and SV-51.  Only time will tell for sure.

So for the time being, I'm stoked we are finally getting Macross variable fighters in 1/48 scale.

Bandai has announced a 1/48 scale VF-25 from the latest Macross Frontier series, but nothing new has been heard about it since last year.

Thank you all for the kind words!

Phil,

The engine pods taper towards the front, which maybe gives it an appearance of a downward angle.  Yeah, it does have a weird stance.

Incredible!  Tops the even the most ambitious ideas I had for any of my spares.  Great job!Bow [bow]

BTW: Yes, 1:144 single-mode kits were made ( usually availabe in 4-in-1 kits ) by either Arii or Bandai, I think, and Nichimo made 1:200 non-transformables of the VF-1 variants including Armored and Supers in all 3 modes.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] Sorry Allen.

The ones I am thinking of are bandai figures, and they are 1/60 not 1/48.(my bad)

from what I can see though, the hasegawa non-transforming kits are top noch, with the new bandai VF-25 kits coming in a close second.

Some people spend their whole lives wondering if they made a difference. Gundams don't have that problem.

Yes, there are the Imai/Bandai transformable Valks in 1/72. Not bad kits for their age, with recessed panel lines, but these suffer from the odd bumps and hinges and other compromises (short wings) to allow for transformation. These "features" are most apparent in Fighter mode, and make it look ugly in parts.

I have a pile of the Revell boxings of these kits plus some of the original Imai versions (Imai even did a "3-in-1" kit which had all three heads in one boxing). They tend to get a bit floppy after a few transformations... Dead [xx(]

I believe the older diecast versions (including the infamous Transformers "Jetfire" version) were about 1/55, while some more recent versions are about 1/60.

Edit: Apologies to Allan for digressing from the discussion of his model. Sign - Oops [#oops]

I happen to own a bandai 1/72 scale VF-1S and it is FULLY transformable. all three modes. it even has metal landing gear. now that I have hade time to think about it, the only valks in 1/48 are the die-cast ones that some company or another put out some time back. I have only seen the fast pack and full armor convertion kits for these though.

There are none available in styrene in 1/48th from any manufacturer as far as I am aware. There may have been some in resin at some point but I'm not sure.

All other scales are smaller than 1/72. If I recall correctly, 1/100, 1/170. (1/144?).

The only "full" fighter versions of the VF-1 in 1/72 have been made by Hasegawa.

The only other "fighter" version in 1/72 is the Imai/Bandai "Super Valkyrie" with the boosters and FAST packs, which was a hybrid kit based on the 1/72 GERWALK with additional/replacement parts. The Hasegawa versions of this variant are infinitely better, as the Imai/Bandai version has a very odd droopy nose profile.

The valkery are wierd with their scales, I have a few in 1/100 scale, im sure there are 1/48. though, when I just looked, I couldnt find any, but for that matter, I couldnt find the 1/100 ones I had either (hlj and starship modeler)

I think I may have seen one or two of them in 1/48 before, but I am not sure. I would go do some recon for you like usual, but I will be flying home on monday for the hollidays.

Very nice. I like the attention to detail in the open panel sections, and the subtle panel lining. Well done. Thumbs Up [tup]

I had just convinced myself not to buy one of these, and then you go and hang this excellent example. Well, I guess I'm off to HLJ...

Looks like you've got control sticks on both the left and right sides, instead of a throttle on the left?  That's kind of odd..  Great work otherwise!

In a word - outstanding... Bow [bow]

Nice work with the little details, and you went the extra mile separating and extending the flaps and slats. The extended boarding ladder is a nice touch too. Thumbs Up [tup]

The only question I have is the engine pods. They seem to be angled down slightly and it gives the whole ship an odd stance. Or is that an illusion in the photos?

But overall, very nice...  Cool [8D]

Looks pretty awesome to me man.  I like the Skull graphics, did they come with it?  Your paint job is nice and I like the wash around the little detail bits.  They pop out nicely.
