Hi,

I've not quite built diorama of Videogames, but I have used some Videogame textures to create Dioramas:

For the 1st Diorama I used some Textures grabbed from a couple of Star Wars games, plus some other sources as well!

For the second Diorama I used loads of textures from the Quake 2 game.

Here are the links to my 2 posts:

I miss dog, I feel like playing Hl2 again just to see him, though, I dont want to do ravenholm, or the antlion den.

Though, I had the same idea, to do a scene of a resistance medic making sure a combine soldier is dead

I'm glad you ask this because I had the idea of doing a small dio base on the famous PC game Half-life (2)

I'm not much into sci-fi, but the vehicule that i'm doingis in the game never the less, it isn't a drop ship that looks like a flying whale, or a insect like gunshi, or even the combine armor truck and helicopter. Its Alexy's coppter, the one she fix up at the end of episode 2, until her father got killed by what appears to be a flying robot larva that has supernatural powers.

Anyways, the coppter that she has is in fact a helicopter model that exist, its a soviet Mi-8 hip, I beleive, it shouldn't be too hard to to make, but to show that its in half life I would add gordon freeman and Aley, maybe even dog. The helicopter is important, not just is were Alexy father dies but the helicopter will probaly be use in episode 3, which should be release in episode 3.

v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape {behavior:url(#default#VML);} Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}

It would look like this, but I mit be wrong on the type of helicopter, its the one right behind dog (robot).

that is the way it goes, but you got the kit, thats all that matters.

honestly, he would do well against most zerg, depending on if he had a firebat in there with him, or he was alone, its against certain zerg, the lurkers specificly, that would tear him appart

Its a good dio, I saw it before and I like it, though, that marine is definatly going to die, a trench might be good cover vs other marines, but other then that, hes so dead.

In other news, im dieing here, still searching in vain to find that marine kit...

Yup.  Not sure what a waist high trench is gonna' do for him against a full blown wave of Zerg.

I was kind of imagining the opening cutscene to StarCraft: Broodwar where the battlecruisers up above make the executive decision to abandon all groundforces, leaving them to be slaughtered in a last ditch defence.

But I guess it's better than nothing.  I found mine on Ebay, took about a month and a half to ship all the way from Hong Kong, and the shipping cost more than the winning bid.

Not really scratch built... and not really my favorite video game of all time. They were  going to get a base but I never got around to it...

This was the Delta Squad from Conflict: Desert Storm

Terrible game, horrible tactics and a crazy plot- didn't make a bit of sense, but it was fun for rainny days after school with my neighbor.

Did some minor mixing and matching of parts and this was my first time with Magic Sculpt, so I enjoy the results. I say go for the forced perspective idea, sounds cool to me!

I while ago I built a small dio/vignette of a StarCraft Terran Space Marine in a trench on the desert planet Korhal.  I can't claim that the marine is scratchbuilt, though, it was an old Academy kit if I remember correctly.

the game is "ToeJam & Earl" released on the megadrive (genesis). it's a scratchbuild concoction made from body filler and balsa-wood. (while photographing it, the top 'pod' fell off).

i also once did all the cars from the game "Need for Speed" (ie the original in that series).

G-Police!!!! Oh dear lord how I LOVED that game!!!

That was just awsome..  That walker and that plane was my favorites forever! I still got my copy!! =)

But my favorite game ever was on the PS1... too sad I can't remember it's name... was something similar to Amazone or similar.. anyone?

It was a click and watch type of game... You got one area, then you draged the cursor around to find new places to go or items to pick up... The entire game was about rescuing some kind of bird egg...  It is my all time favorite, I can't find my copy...  And I'd love to finish it...

It was rather awsome... Had to find coordinates using the sun and different types of optical equipment, etc.etc...   Anyone? =)

I am always inspired by the Halo series and recently Fallout 3. Also lots of zombie movies and post apocalypse style stuff like the Mad Max movies and also Children of Men. I like doing urban scenes a lot now and I just started working on my big project again. Heres a link if anyone is interested in taking a look.

Hey smeagol how goes the Team Fortress build? That was a cool project, very original. Oh and I just remembered I modified a few figures a while back to look like the marines from Halo, some 1/72 modern German infantry, modded the G36 into battle rifles.

My real name is Cam. Interest: anything 1/72, right now mostly sci-fi and modern In progress: 1/72 Sci-fi diorama (link in my web) 1/72 Leopard 2A5 1/72 APC Conversion to a MEGA DESTROYER

I'm still rockin' the PS2. Dozens of games I want to play but haven't gotten around to yet. I've been looking at the Ace Combat series. You recommend them?

if you want pretty kul games on the ps2 still, i'd say go for the ace combat stuff.  4 was pretty nice.  but ace combat 5 really brought it up a notch with the graphics (I am talking the Gran Turismo 3 outclassing GT2 type of updates) and a fairly kul storyline.  There is even a full replay for the entire combat sequence after you finish which was really nice.

Terrific Stuff.  I remember that game actually!  It was in one of the demo discs I got on a magazine.

i've been repainting an su-27 (since there are limited kits of su-37 available) into the Yellow 13 scheme featured in one of my favorite arcade style flight sim games, Ace Combat 4.  I've played the games since Air Combat on the playstation, and bought the PS2 for ace combat 3, 4, and 5, the PSP for ace combat X, but I am not about to give in to the new gen of consoles for Ace Combat 6 or Zero.

I realised it after I said it.  I said zero because I have one in 1/72nd scale.  I tried, and failed, to build the one I have in 1/32nd, a crappy old revelle kit, but I do have a 1/32nd Frank, from revell, same era, maybe ill have better luck on it.

Better idea concerning forced perspective: smaller-scale Zero diving in from out of the sun in the background, with larger-scale figures in front, or large-scale Zero heading in towards small-scale figures. Having the same scale isn't forced perspective.

I am about to start it sometimes soon...

Red Orchestra is the name of the game.. one of the most realistic WWII games.

I'm in a realism group there... a "unit" which is the same as a "clan" exepct strict rules, authentic tactics, one life battles, authentic ranking, etc.etc.etc..  So just highly realistic and authentic.  Panzerschütze Erwin Kretschmer here! Wink [;)]

so yeah, I'm a tank driver. Therefore inspired about tanking....   And my 3 years with a tankcommander from Belgium, have really gone deep in my mind..  I have a big dream of once making films.. Starting the dream as a filmphotographer.   So yeah, I am already working on a screenplay for that... "Panzerjugend"  If interested, I could show any of you my work so far.. PM in that case Big Smile [:D]

Back on topic though, I am soon starting it. As soon as I get a great idea and money and models! Smile [:)]

Nah, jnust think it would be a cool idea, build it in a box, foritications, with I dunno, greek vrs persians, with that Jap Zero banking down, with the Zero being the center of the dio, butI need to work on my airplanes before I can do that.

Nope, but have thought about building my fav aircraft  in IL2 (me109G-6 with my logo on the cowling)

A perspective dio sounds interesting, anything to to with the collage group build?

give it a try!

Video game builds?
Posted by smeagol the vile on Friday, January 16, 2009 9:31 AM

I was curious, has anyone built/scratch built any dios based on their favorite video games?

I have been tempted before, but never did it.  right now I have a pretty big urge.  I have been playing civ 4 for a good bit every night, so I was thinking of doing a forced perspective dio, using 1/72nd ancient (greek roman) figures fighting, with a 1/72nd Zero diving down to strafe them, calling it 'the best allies are the ones that Tech'

Whatchall think, will it work?
