ah well the Garrison CO painted the damned thing grey. It looks Ok but the paint is coming off. Housepaint on drywall mud, you would tHINK it would stick!

this was a full size, well about 85% scale, project by the way...looks like we will need to pull our graphics off an repaint due to so much of the paint coming off during the recent Mardi Gras parades.

You have to see it in the light of the twin suns of Tatooine, to know for sure.

Looks like something u can mix with Tamiya Khaki + a little dark yellow and brown.  The Testor ModelMaster II enamel line has the exact match to the Israeli Tan if you can find one to check out.  It's close to the shade in the 2nd picture.

thanks for the reply guys. Never been to disney, not much of a fan so I never went, but its good to know its there.

I will create an account and ask at the RPF. I did a multitude of searches there last ngiht but never came up with anything regarding it using thier search feature.

Agreed on the color...it does change color, but we will go for that used, weathered look and not worry about optical tricks on our float.

thanks guys

David

The actual prop is at Disneyworld Florida.

I'd also look throught the Chronicles.

If you are a member on the RPF forum Don Bies (R2 Operator) is a active member there so you could probably PM him for info.

Goes by artoo77.

Or you could start a post over there since there are many "In the Know" on that forum.

This is tough. Depending on the angle it looks like three different colors as well as shine. The first pick looks like its grey the second almost a flat dark grey and the last a glossy olive drab with heavy weathering. Good luck man, maybe its my old eyes! LOL

The LFL crew built the skiff to look weathered. You should skip over to the armor section and ask 'the doog' what he thinks. He is an absolute master at weathering.See what he has to say.

ok guys and gals and fringe unknowns, here is where YOU get to dictate the order of things.

My Garrison is creating a 3/4 scale mardi gras float that will resemble the Sand Skiff that carried Luke, Han and Chewie over the Saarlac pit.  We are building it on an existing float chassis of heavy ply and building the shape up with massive blocks of foam. Luckily a professional float builder is doing 95% of the work and has come a LONG way on it in just a week, now it is taking shape.

Now here is where you come in: What COLOR do you see on the skiff?

Go back and watch the movie if you need to, and notice how the color shifts. There are only a couple of images of the skiff in the SW visual dictionary, incluing one on page 245 that is the closest and clearest of the few given. Here are other images below.

now, what I see, is the color the Isreali's used several years ago. I dont even know what the color is called but that is what it looks like to me, a dark tan with a big dash of grey mixed in. In full daylight this thing will look different than it does on film, we all know the color shift. If by chance anyone happens to know the Pantone used on the skiff----KILLER! I cannot find a single model of it built up on any forum that I know of.

I figure if you can help me out I can approximate with model paint on white stock, take that to a color sampler and have it reproduced.

Thanks everyone!!
