Model Playset - TTA, Gundam, Macross, Votoms Whatever!
Posted by Skonch on Friday, February 27, 2009 7:21 AM

Hi, there! I am new to this site.

This is something a bit different!

As a boy I remeber my dad building amazing model railways & remote controlled boats, do I remember playing with them.....No!

So I decided that I would put my inherited creativity to good use and try to make something that my kids could actially play with.

My boys love Star Wars,Power rangers, Macross and Gundam, in fact anything with Robots in. So I have built them a Scifi playset.

Here are the images:

Very Cool.

Totally digging the theme.

Has the right look especially the pic with the Super Valks and the Red Shoulder VOTOM.

What's if made out of?

Hi, Eric,

The buildings of the Playset are made of Foamcore, and the backdrop is made of Mounting Board. I created the decals using Photoshop and printed them onto A4 sticker paper.

I used a hot glue gun to "weld" the foamcore together. The 2 large sections of the backdrop have a hinge that is simply "invisible" sticky tape, and the hangar sections slot into place. The whole thing folds up and the buildings can all fit onto a small(ish) shelf.

If you want to have a go, I have posted instructions and my decal sheets here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/30029551@N06/collections/72157614158860278/

You can use just sections to build a smaller Diorama, or customise them to your own requirements.

The good thing about building stuff like this is that it doesn't take long to build. The whole thing must have taken me 2 days. (The decals too the most time, they took about 2 weeks to get right).

Those are great.

Might come in handy when ever I get around to building and finishing off some of my vintage Macross Models.Whistling [:-^]

What's the rough scale on those.

IIRC most of my models are 1/144 scale.

Thanks for the link.

Taiyou Sentai Sun Vulcan! Nice! Great job on this. I wish I had the time, spase and supplys to make a few dozen of these for my comic!
Some people spend their whole lives wondering if they made a difference. Gundams don't have that problem.

I have one or two of those 1/144 macross valks, but I have a bunch of the 1/100 vintage ones.

I like your idea of using the foam board for a diorama, looks really good, interesting variationf rom what were used to

Division 6,

Some of the shots show 1/144 models, while I have also created buildings for some old Popy toys I've had since a boy, the scale of those is about 1/400.

I made the backdrop to work with scales from 1/72 down to 1/400. Buildings of different scales can be added.

My kids aren't really aware of scale, but I like photographing my latest Gundam models and using the set as a Diorama.

Puma_Adder - I see you noticed the Jaguar Vulcan.

That is my most prized posession.
