1/72 Viper Mk II WIP
Posted by balta1 on Saturday, March 14, 2009 12:53 AM

I've been working on this Black Sun viper for over a year and decided it's time to get it done! I started to do the decals this morning and hope to finish it by Sunday. I still have to figure out how to do the framing on the canopy so if anyone have any good ideas I'm open. BTW sorry for the bad pics, I took them with my Iphone.

I was considering picking up this one as well as their MKVII.  Any idea on a quality comparison between the two?

I've not seen the Sci-High kit but I've heard that it's more refined than the Black Sun kit. It's more expensive but i wouldn't know if it's worth the extra cash.

Well the viper is now decaled! I damaged a couple of the decals which was all my fault but I was able to mix some tamiya red and hull red to get a close match for the red decals strips and airbrushed some of the markings. I still need to figure out how I will mask the canopy.

TIA

Liquid mask or frisket film would be my suggestion.  Either one of those has always worked for me.

Nice work.
As I own both, I can say that the Sci Hi one is definitely better than the Black Sun version, however whether it's worth the extra cost is up to you.
An elegant solution for the canopy is to use bare metal foil. You will be able to get the hard edge that you wouldn't achieve otherwise - say with masking fluid.
Looking forwards to seeing a bit of weathering on this bird.
