1/6th scale star wars battle droid
Posted by modelmaniac1967 on Sunday, March 15, 2009 1:45 PM
I thought since i was posting the snowspeeder I would also share my battle droid that I am working on at the same time. I like having a lot of projects going on at the same time because when i get bored with one I can jump on another, and another and another, etc,. I am articulating the droid to fire a blaster, instead of just standing straight. I bought the blaster from starshipmodeler.com.

Ok I should have taken progress shots as I went along on the arms but i didnt. Here are some pics.

Replacing the plastic in the arm for aluminum tubing.

Replacing the soft antanea on the back for aluminum tubing to make it stronger so it wont be bent.

Now the articulated arm. Hinged the hand to accept the resin blaster.

The is the tedious part, also have to do the other hand to hold the other end of the blaster...

Yes it is, and what I was thinking about was making the stap seperatly as if the droid just got off the stap, like make a dio with both of them, the only thing is (and i have seen the movies) just not sure how a stap is at rest. They hover and fly kinda like a speeder but not sure if they just float when not in use, ill have to figure that one out for the diorama....

Great idea, and I look forward to seeing it! I think that like a speeder bike, the STAP is just going to hover in place when not in use. With its design, there just doesn't seem to be a way to 'park' it.

Yup. They hover. They use repulsors that always are on.

Cool thanks guys for the info that helps me with the overall design and placement of the stap and the battle droid with gun, whats in mind is just a simple dio with dirt and maybe a little plant or something next to the stap hovering just above the dio and the battle droid ready for battle. Now got a lot of work ahead of me and time to get busy and still work on the snowspeeder for the next lhs contest in 2 and a half months.....

I also have the droid and the blaster from SSM. Think the STAP will get pieced out into other projects.

I will be watching this with interest.

I love that dio very original. I will for sure get this baby done after my snowspeeder is finished here in a week or so hopefully...
