I think there used to be a drawing in the old blueprint set from back in the 70s.  There were several sheets in the pack.I know that they covered the viper's landing gear and possibly the cylon too.  You could also watch one of the episodes where they landed on a baseship in a cylon fighter.  In the hanger scenes you can see a closeup and maybe some distance shots around the hanger.

hi  Ikar01,

thanks for  the  sugestion on the  dvd. I tried it, too short .i'm hoping  some  one will ahve the  blue  prints to  share? on the  dvd it  shows the  landing  gear  coming  out  of the  mid right  and  rear  engine . simple  but  not  specific and the model kit  shows what  looks like  landing  gear , but not in the  right  place i would think it  should be ?

I  also have  a  post on 1/35 or  1/32 scale  cylons i'm tring to  find? for  more  resin dioramas.. so if  any  one  knows  please!! send a link..

thanks...mike

Unfortunately, I don't recall the blueprint set having any landing gear details for the Raider. (I have that set here somewhere but I don't know exactly where Whistling [:-^]) If it does turn up, I'll check it out, but my memory is saying no, it doesn't cover those details.

This is about as good as it gets.

Note that the raider in the background is a standard store bought model like the one your working with a Studio model in front used for forced perspective.

WOW !!!! Eric,

that  a grate  pic! I  guess that no one  had the  time  to produce  true  landing  gear? those  two raiders look like they're on blocks?   The  one "video" of  starbuck  geting inot  a  raider  and the  deleted seen of a  cylon climbing the  ladder. it looks like  the  WWII "belly  laders" in those old  bombers....

I've  come  up with a  1/72 scale  'mod" cylon figure,  i only  have  two versions . the  resin cockpit from ebay  is good , but  my  try  at a half  pewter cylon looks better. So..... I  guess i should ask for  sugestions to  build landing  gear?right ?

thanks so much  for the  pic you  shared I'd love to get a  screen saver  of  it . If possible ?best  regards, mike

That pic has been in a lot of magazines over the years, sadly I don't have anything in higher res.

Looking at the bottom of the studio models might help.

They seam to have a few panels on the bottom that could be opened up for landing gear.

Here's a kit molded off a pyro model from the show.

Knowing that the screen time models had a block in the middle looking at this pic , the center with the tubing could be part of the landing gear where the pad's could flip down.

EDIT

Skip that thought.

Those long panels look to be doors just hiding the gear.

Looking at the picture I posted again you can see they are in the same general area nd look to be doors.

Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Looking at the underside picture, I'd say that the gear doors are most likely the two longer rectangular doors and the boarding door is between them.  There was a shot of Starbuck and Apollo crouched down at the strut.  Look at the strut and fake it.  It's probably got a long pad or runner from the looks of the doors.  Who's going to prove you wrong?

thanks Eric,

for those  links. the  center  tube that  was  used for  mounting the  model for  shooting, the  first  rectangle is the ladder  into the  raider and the  square  section just  ahead  of that Rear door are two That look like  landing  gear, But  in the  video shots thier  in the  wrong  direction? would one think thay  made a  mistake  and  no one  noticed?

I  have  done  stage  work in professional stage  productions over  the  years and  depending  upon a  road production or  a one-off production if no one knows, then no one  would think not to  look?

the  rear engine  section, to be  honest  dose not look like  "rear  doors" in line  with the  engines  but  it dose  support  the  fact  of  what  we  see on screen. on screen thay  did not  have open bay  doors, just  the ladder to  get  into the  ship.

"Were you  talking about  the  very  rear  section at the  rear  tube mount between the  two engines? "

to bad  i don't  Have  Vance Frederick's From "HeartLand" number  or  e mail i  meet  him at the 25th  BSg con in burbank years  back. i  for  got  about the  pick you showed of the landing  bay. he  had  pointed out that  about the raiders  they  had no time to  paint  or  cover  up a toggle switch.

they  just shot  it . As  for the  pic you  have  any  resolution is  good resolution as  compared to the  pic you  shared.  thanks for  every thing. I'll do my best to  show  progress. my  pewter  cylon looks grate.i have M-1 and  looking at  M-2 , but  the M3 will standing  not in motion.

best  regards, mike

Hi ikar01,

Not  to  woried about  being  wrong  just  wishing  to  be  very  close &  believable .i personally  thought  that  four  landing  struts would be  fine . but  if  i go  with  all the  "Help!!" the  two close to the  center just  under the  Main cockpit  and the  rear  dewl doors just  after the  ladder  door. Center  at the  rear  between the  two engines. might  work, only  thinking  about the  center  of gravity balancing  things  out . thanks to every  one  who have posted info &  ideas.

Who's going to prove you wrong?  true  words never  been spoken better.

thanks, mike

I took the pic into a photo program, and brightened it up. It appears the both raiders were sitting on a solid "support" right in the center of the ship. It's highly possible the the raiders  "didn't have landing gear built for them". Unless there was a shot that required LG, they might have been left off as a cost cut. I don't remember any scenes from TOS that showed a raider "on the ground" where gear could be seen.

Lead me not into temptation ..................I can find it myself

Here's just an idea for a starting point. Maybe use those landing gear that were included on the old MPC Darth Vader tie fighter kit but modify the strut or pad details, add some, cut some length off the strut etc. I know those landing gear would be a bit small for the raider, but maybe use the design as a prelim idea but scaled up etc.

Lucky You!

There is no official canon on this, the show didn't show the landing gear.

So you get to use your creativity and invent some appropriate to the style

of the show :)  I love doing that!  Well, The Viper had skids so you could do that.

Or perhaps more like the foot Pads of a Malenium Falcon

Enjoy, can't wait to see what you come up with.

I remember a scean from the original series, When Apollo & Starbuck got on board a Cylon Basestar.

When they landed it just landed on the deck.

I think it must be close to Klingon Bird of Pray, not as long,  But some thing like it.

Thank You for looking.

Yeah. No kidding. The only one I remember is how it landed on the Basestar. But how it might land on  uneven ground? Your guess is as good as mine.

I just found and went through my blueprints.  no such drawing of the gear.  I also have the r.mquarie lithos of bsg.  also no go.  I went to my construction bps from universal..  they have only models and 3/4 views on blocks.  went to my set of desilu prints for st the balance of terror, but why..... all info went thru,  I ate some fudge and had a glass of milk,  then I was sleepy and went to sleep

If your still interested? I found one where some one used Star Wars T.I.E. Fighter Landing gear, It looks preaty good. Here's the site http://modelermagic.com/

Look for GENRE,  Battlestar Galactica selections. Its on the 3rd page,  Just scan down the page, 11th from the top of the page.

Hope This Helps.
