My TC TNS Galactica Build

Thanks for the tip, but I think I'm going just wipe out the acrylic and use the darker enamel for between the ribs. I appreciate the suggestion and the comments, tho.  

Someone over at Hobby Talk pointed out a bit earlier that "Galactica" is mis-spelled on the plaque.  I already notified the guy from whom I purchased these.  I can't believe that I missed this until now.  Haven't heard back from him yet, but I'm sure I'll be happy w/the results.  He's come across as a great guy and I also placed an order w/him for three more plaques.

BTW, no major work today.  Did some more masking and hope to have it finished by tomorrow.  I really want to get this thing finished up by the end of next weekend.

Oh, and before I forget again, I got the Flexi-Display base from Lost and Found Toys.  This is the 2.5" version.

When I did my wash, I used water-based paint and then buffed the ribs with a damp cloth after everthing dried. Cloth with no "tooth," like linen. The trick is to keep the cloth tight against your finger so it will just brush the tops of the ribs and won't get inbetween them.

Thanks, Charlie.  I appreciate it and those are indeed some awesome plaques.  I kind of screwed up, tho, and should have had "Galactica, BS-75" on the plaque you can see below. Oh, well.  My bad in fore planning.

OK, two new pics.  I've not gotten much of anything accomplished today where models are concerned other than taking these pics.  I wasn't the only one w/the day off in the house and the weather was beautiful, so we've been doing some minor yard work. 

Anyhow, first pic shows the shelf that has The Bucket on it and how it looks w/the plaque.  It also gives you a good idea of just how badly my attempt to give the area between the ribs a wash turned out.  I'm going to clean that area out as best I can and finish w/the masking of the plates, then go with the slightly darker color for the ribs.  That is going to get messy, methinks and I should've done what someone at Hobby Talk (my friend Lloyd Collins) suggested - paint the darker color first, then mask off the main areas in bulk fashion so that I could spray the color for the plates.  It would certainly have saved me the time it's taking to get the plates themselves masked off. 

Second pic here shows the plaque itself.  It's just leaning up against the Flexi-Display base right now.  I've not decided if I want to go w/it being on the side - or even which side! - or on the front. I'm still leaning towards the starboard side, tho, as that's how my shelf is set up due to the shape of my office.

That's what I did on my Alliance Galactica (the dark wash between the ribs).

Thanks, Charlie.  I'm taking yours and the suggestion of one of the members at Resin Illuminati - dbhs - and am going to do a dark wash in ribs area.  I've got plenty of acrylic flat black and shades of greys, so that would work better w/o all the fumes and paint in the air.  I don't have a paint booth builtup anymore so do my painting in the garage, then bring the models in and put them in an oversized box.  While transporting them, they tend to get some hair on them - we've got two cats and a dog, so hair is EVERYWHERE, it seems. 

Anyhow, it makes more sense, IMNSHO. 

BTW, I got my order in from panther96 from his custom display plaque line.  If you've never seen his work, check out his thread - custom metal plaques for all your creations.  I ordered five from him.  You can see them in this post in the above linked thread, they're the five BSG plaques - two from TNS BSG and three from TOS.  These things are sweet!  They're 3 1/2" / 8.89cm wide by 1 1/2" / 3.81cm high. 

More pics later tonight or tomorrow sometime in the morning as I'm on Leave then and hope to get a lot of work accomplished at some point or another.

I was thinking....you might want to airspray a mist of black in the area between the engines and the head of the ship  (masking off the armor, of course). It gives that area the look of being in shadow. That's what they did with the Diamond Select kit. Really subtle shading of black.

Thanks for the kind words, Charlie.  I appreciate it.  It really is a nice kit, well worth the price, IMNSHO.

As I mentioned previously, I used some Tamiya Spray Bomb AS-25, Dark Ghost Grey as the base color. I was just going to use that as the main color, but got to thinking about it after looking at reference pics again, so decided to go with another color for the ribs areas. I'm going to use AS-7, Neutral Gray (USAAF) and as such have been masking off the armored panels so I can do the ribs. Man, this is taking forever, it seems!

Pic TC-NuGal05 shows the gator head with the front still in primer. I realize that there's not much contrast in these pics to show the difference, but it is there.

The only other pic that I feel needs any real mentioning is TC-NuGal08. This one shows a slight closeup of the starboard forward flight pod where I added the AMP battlestar accurizing greeblie bit. Remember, the section of the kit w/that part is just a plain disc, no detail in the center of the disc. I just think it looks better w/the part added in as I've done.

Cool! I told my wife I wanted one of those for our anniversary but she scored one of the Diamond Select Galacticas instead.

I can't wait to see photos of your kit when it's finished.
