transparent space ship models?
Posted by Baskervilles on Monday, April 13, 2009 10:38 AM

Can anyone recommend an individual or series of transparent model kits or toys?  Unusual space ships would be especially useful.

 Thanks!

There is a model of the Space Shuttle that has one side clear so you can see everything inside.

Check in the real space section of the forum I think there is a build up in there.

Thanks. It's funny how difficult this sort of thing is to search for.

Strange I saw the pix last week now I don't remember where and I've checked half a dozen forums and did a google search.Banged Head [banghead]

I did however come across a clear space capsule and a Japanese kit of a Thunderbirds craft.

Monogram did a 1/32 scale Apollo CSM with transparent side panels. I believe this may be avaliable from Revell now. http://www.revell.com/catalog/products/85-5086.html

The gold color on this model simulates the gold foil covering of the actual Command Module. Interior details such as figures of the three Astronauts, instrument and control panels, structural members, parachutes, oxygen and hydrogen tanks, and fuel cells may be viewed through transparent sections.

I think Lindberg put out a Roswell UFO that was partially clear.

" I think Lindberg put out a Roswell UFO that was partially clear. "

They did and it was rather pointless. There isn't much to see inside except a few cylinders.

Also cross section models of Enterprise and Millenium Falcon. I have these but dont recall if they are 1/2 clear plastic.

Then there are the Invisible Man, Woman, and Horse.

From the old days I can recall a Polaris submarine (Revell?) and a rocket-shaped space station (Hawk?)

Hasegawa also put out a number of their Macross VF-1 Valkyrie kits in transparent red, green and blue. These were released several years ago and to my knowledge have not been reissued, so may be difficult to find.

the Falcon is not clear plastic. the upper left mandible is removable to see the interior including game table and surrounding area, and the inner workings of the ship.  I was one of the first to review it way back when in Modelers Resource when that was a rag printed in four tone colors!

also Bandai has a set of clear Zakus, the regular kit but the plastic is clear.

Thanks everyone!

I also posted this on the tools page.  Anyone know the answer?

I noticed that some modelers liked an epoxy product called Magic Sculpt, but there are 3 different products that have almost the same name - Magic Sculp, Magic Sculpt and Magi-Sculpt.

Can someone send a link or post the name of the preferred product?

WOW! I love it.

However, no way would I pay even half that price for it.

Mongram had some transparent rockets and satellite kits in the early 60's.  Books such as "Classic Plastic" are a good resource.

Testors had the both Roswell and Area 51 UFO kits in clear- now being re-released by Lindberg.

Tis is clear for lighting (which sucks BTW) but I have seen some very motivated builders do some awesome interiors.

Hey MITSDUDE .... The sub you allude to ,with a clear side was done by RENWAL , the REVELL sub had a full interior but both sides were solid grey . The rocket shaped space station was done in slightly different iterations ,both by REVELL (former soviet space explorer ) and HAWK had both a space ship with a clear side and they also put out the EXPLORER satellite with a clear side .  tankerbuilder
