For our 34th Anniversary, my wife gave me a Diamond Select Battlestar Galactica, the 3rd Season Battle-damaged run which was limited to one thousand statues. Mine is number 89. But I didn't like the stand it was on. Main problem was that it has the Galactica sitting with its nose a good quarter inch lower than the tail. So I decided to scratch-build a new one (and keep the original stand tucked safely away in its box).
First, here is a photo of the Galactica on the original stand.
Next I designed a nameplate.
Then I purchased a 6x18 inch piece of one half inch thick clear lucite. I then mounted the nameplate to the big piece of lucite, under an eighth inch thick 2 1/4 by 3 1/2 inch piece of clear plexiglass (with polished edges) that I had laying around.
I am waiting for two Flexi-Display stands from Lost And Found Toys, one 2.5 and the other 4 inches to arrive. I'll be glueing them onto the lucite. Hopefully, the difference in height will make the Galactica statue look as though it were soaring upward in space. I'm using two Flexi-Display stands because this statue was cast using a very heavy, stone-like resin and weighs almost seven pounds.
I will also, when I am finished, be removing the protective covering on the bottom of the big sheet of lucite and add some small, clear silicone pads so the bottom of the stand won't get scratched up.
