OK for those who might not know about Wonderfest.

http://www.starshipmodeler.com/events/wfest2k3.htm

It's the best and biggest sci-fi/horror modeling event in the U.S. There were over 400 hundred entries of only sci-fi and figure kits for the model contest. The dealer room was massive and had several hundred more models on display. The amount of workmanship in most of the models was amazing. The competetion was professional, and fostered good feelings unlike some IPMS evnts. It got several kids into model building by offering make it take class and instruction corses for newer modelling fans. The atmosphere was one of fun. It seems a shame that FSM would seem to ignore such a great modeling event. There's a ton of us sci-fi guys who also build real stuff, but tire of the monotony of yet another Me-109 or Tiger. It would be nice to see FSM do a article on this event, if only to expose the level of excellence to the 'main stream' in a smaller part of the overall modeling community.

I have many pics from the show - most are not good enough for a magazine though, done handheld from across the ropes.

FSM was there and took pics. We'd like to see them in the magazine though. You'll love WF2004 if you make it there. It was an awesome experience!

I've been attending Wonderfest for 10 years and it is a fantastic experience. The people are great, the dealer room is not to be missed and it has one of the greatest model contest this modeler has ever seen. At least for Sci-Fi and Horror modelers. There are truly some fantastic works on display. And on these many trips to Wonderfest, FSM has no problem promoting its magazine with promotional displays and sample copies. I have also noted FSM photographers being there snapping pics. Yet never a word in the magazine....?? Could this be someone's attempted at taking a holiday for the family (6 flags is across the street) and writing it off as a business expense?Wink [;)] Unlikely, but why all the pics and yet no coverage?? Is there even film in that camera??? hummmmm?

Gee, I would have thought somebody at FSM would have had something to say about this subject. Not a word eh?

I wonder if this causes great a great division in the editor's meetings at FSM. Matt is like "Come on! This is collection of great models here!" and everyone else is "Matt, no one except the few guys in the Sci-Fi forum want to see this stuff. And we're already backed up with our Bf-109 articles". Hey guys!

Sorry I haven't responded until now -- I was out of the office for the holidays, and didn't get to the forum until today.

The photos I shot at Wonderfest '03 will go up on the FSM site as an online exclusive sometime here in the near future (and I'll let you know when they do). It'll be a nice way to show the models AND promote the upcoming 2004 show.

Since we don't publish as many issues in the summer (and Wonderfest is in May) it''ll be easier for me to give the event its due on the FSM web site.

And I'm planning on being at the 2004 event, too. Last year was my first Wonderfest, and I had a great time. (I'm even thinking about entering something this time!)

I'll see you there!

I was at the local hobby shop, and browsed through the Great Scale Modelling issue. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't see ONE Sci-fi picture anywhere. What is wrong with this picture?

It just reinforces my promise to NEVER buy a FSM issue or subscription unless I see some sci-fi in it. We, too, are modellers, are we not? I know that sounds so narrow minded, but talk to any WWII moddller about sci-fi, and you'll get the same response. I'm sick of it. I just joined this forum recently, now I'm debating on whether or not to come back here.

Sorry about the above post. There's no EDIT button. Blush [:I] I started a new thread on this. Please respond there, and let's get back on topic!

So, Who's going to WF2K4? Matt?

I have yet to see any pictures yet, and here it is March 2004. I doubt we'll see anything now. Approximately 75 days until WF, and there's no time.
