Finding Ma.k Strahl Democratic Republic kits
Posted by smeagol the vile on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 2:11 AM

I'm looking for kits from the other side of ma.k.  Most of the kits coming out now are from the Independent Mercenary Army faction, the Fireball, Luna Pawn, MkII, etc.  I'm looking for the other kits.  They normally begin with the initials PKZ (Panzer Kampf Anzung, armored fighting suit)

http://www.maschinenkrueger.com/mdls.html the ones on the right collom.  I have found a few on ebay, but there about 30-40 bucks minimum, im looking for them a bit cheaper, and a bit more variety, if anyone knows where

Well the PKA/Hieny varients haven't been repopped yet, so it'd be off to ebay. Same with the Fledermaus and Horneese. You, know, now that you mention it it, yeah none of the SDR troopies have been re-issued. Wonder why? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a styrene Konigs Krote and Melusine.

the latest 3 releases have been the snakeeye, and two of the SDR space type suits (though there praticly the same, just one has a open visor...)

Im sort of annoyed that all of the releases look... almost the same, there all praticly the same kits.

Wave has been milking the AFS; AFS, G-Pawn, Luna Pawn, Polar Bear... But the Fliege & Kauz will be out in a month or so. Starship Modeler will be carrying them.

Would you like some cheese with your whine?

If you're hell-bent on building a PKA H0 or H1, make your own. The torso parts are just the cockpit section of a 1/48 Hughes OH-6. The engine can be scratched from just about any motorcycle kit, and the hands can be reconfigured from a Bandai Gundam kit (though the B-Club 1/144 hands work best). Aside from that, it's putty, styrene, tubes, and patience.

I consider it to be very fortunate that we're getting the variety of Ma.K. kits that we are this year--and from two different kit makers, no less. It's a virtual guarantee that Wave will re-pop the Heinrich and the Gustav eventually. There's also the fact that the upcoming Kauz just begs to be converted to its ground-pounding cousin, the Melusine.

If you can't be troubled to wait or make your own, I've got a never-opened shrink-wrapped Heinrich sitting here right next to me. I normally wouldn't consider selling it, but if you're interested, I'm only asking $85--and free shipping within the continental U.S.

O RLY?!? Which part was trolling? I'll help you narrow it down:

A. The part where I outlined--in some detail--the way in which you could construct your own Heinrich?

B. The part where I expanded on your brief mention of current and upcoming Ma.K. kits--and suggesting a Kauz-to-Melusine conversion to fulfill your "ground suit needs"?

-or-

C. The part where I offered to provide you with the kit you seek, even if the price was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Honestly, I don't really want to sell it, so that's the cheapest I'd let one go for.

A big part of the Maschinen Krieger "world" is kitbashing and scratchbuilding. To that end, semi-"serious" Ma.K. modelers find themselves having to create that which they love. Since you're interested in the PKA H0 and H1, I'll throw a trio of links at you:

A link to a 1/48 Hughes (in stock) at Squadron.com. It's also worth noting that this particular kit can also be used for donor items to other Ma.K. builds.

The Maschinen Krieger page at the SSM store - You can find AFS variants in-stock there (as well as at other online retailers).

Jason Eaton's page detailing the AFS Skinhead. This is an official Ma.K. design--but never released in kit form. The most simple way to make one is with a PKA kit and an AFS kit, but you can certainly just use the 1/48 heli kit plus the AFS. It's been done.

.... Thus, a PKA H0 or H1 may be hard to come by, but finding an AFS and a 1/48 Hughes heli kit should be pretty straightforward. You'll have to come up with the skill needed to combine them and paint them all on your own. And that is how you work around the relative short supply and expense of the old Nitto kits.

... Courtesy of your friendly, neighborhood troll.
