Godzilla kits?
Posted by Kugai on Thursday, June 11, 2009 10:13 PM

My fiancee wants a Godzilla for the mantel but I'm having a little trouble figuring which kit to get.  I'm reluctant to get the PL kit or anything else that's styrene ( too many bad experiences with styrene figures ), but I'd be willing to make an exception if I knew what the finished kits looked like ( I don't trust box art without stills of a finished kit).

Does anyone have any references for pics of finished kits and/or leads for ones they'd recommend?

One final factor: though she said any decent version would do, she'd prefer the '70s version ( looks kinda like there was a "Cookie Monster" influence in the face, I call it "Frogzilla") from the last few movies before the big G's first retirement.

Thanks in advance for the help.

My favourite version has to be the "Biogoji" created in 1989 ("Godzilla vs Biollante") and used as a basis for all the other suits up until 1995 - it has a wonderfully feral, animalistic look. I made the Max Factory kit of that, vinyl has its challenges but the end result is a great looking monster.

From the sound of it your girlfriend is talking about the "Megagoji" ("Godzilla vs Megalon") which had big eyes and a rather comical look.

You could try Hobby Japan and have a search through their stock list, any more questions feel free to ask.

PL kits are fine with me- while it's not Godzilla, here is an example of what you can do with a Polar Lights kit- the Creature from the Black Lagoon, has some added features from aftermarket shops, the girl is from Jimmy Flintstone along with a new head and arms.  I had a lot of fun building this combo.

Sounds like you have a great fiance- my wife just complains about all my "junk" around the house!

 Yuck [yuck]

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...
