Just Another Reliant Build
Posted by Swanny on Saturday, July 18, 2009 10:28 AM

Really got the Sci-FI (not Sy-Fy) bug this summer. Now I'm working on the AMT 1/537 Reliant with suacer correction, bridge correction and shuttle bay and of course fully lit. So far I have drilled out the windows and installed the new suacer spacers plus cut out the old bridge. As for building I have the shuttle bay mostly together. The hole bored in the side bays are for white lighting. I made sure to Future the interiors of those bays liberally to help reflect the light into the main bay. The main  bay will have it's own more subdued lighting system that is more shifted towards blue.

I thought the kit was fine also however after some research it appears that the Trek aficionados have determined that the saucer is about 3/16 inch too shallow and that the curvature and window placement on the bridge and B/C decks are wrong. I liked the idea of putting in a shuttle bay but in order to do that I needed to increase the depth of the saucer so no choice but to use the correction. I have to admit that the deeper suacer does look better and the new bridge B/C deck is better that the kit  molding.

Looks like you're off to a great start so far!  Can't tell for sure, but it looks like you've not done a wash or at least a dry brush weathering on the bay details to bring some of that detail out to the eye a bit better.

And yeah, that kit is rife w/problems.  Can't wait to see more on your build.  I've wanted to pick up one of those shuttlebay interiors for a while, but my primary focus for Trek has been 1/2500 for a while now.  I've still got two of those ERTL Reliants that could use the shuttlebay kit, regardless.

Thanks for sharin' yer pics!
