 First;

dnatech, CadetChuck, MightyMan, Sain, Ikarol, & Phil_h. Thank you all for  your help!

I almost  felt,  i was alone on this.   "IKARO1  "the pic of your  scratch built  Viper's landing gear has been a long time  staple  in my  own research!  it  Matches  to the orginal TV show.   Thinking out  of the  Box,  using 1/72 to 1/48 scale  armor tanks  suspention . I've  purchased these Kits for  parts:

                                                                                                    (Note ) * Perside

1. revell1/72 03168  M60 & ERA.                                      Parts *6 wheels  & 3 carier wheels

2.revell 1/72 03135 bridge laying tank beaver.                     Parts *7 wheels &2 Cairer wheels

3. trumpeter 07277 M1A1 with  mine  cleaning blde system.                          Parts *7 wheels

4.tamiya 1/48 32507*1600 strumgeshutzIII.                       parts *6 wheels & 3 carier wheels

5.tamiya 1/48 32537*1900 M26 pershing.                          Parts *6 wheels & 5 carier wheels

The wheels and suspention  are the  right  scale, the Match the  MMI resin kit.   the larger 1/48 scale  wheels are  large  but a  "6th mill Attack  fighter " might  use  them?   the  smaller  carier  wheels look much more  accurate.   later I will post  pics of what  works best .

On your BSg blue prints, Did they  show  wheels sets side  my side or  single  row ? As  with  this  post  I have not  found to many other  online  images of scratch  built  landing gear   builds. I  have  sent  a request  to MMI if they  might  make a more  Simpler  (less detail ) Kit. for more  quick Builds and maybe incease  Viper  dioramas?  Now  that  thier  are  pilots for  the  newer kits... BUT If REvell would just  ? take the same  approch to this issue they might  omit detail like the viper poilt  they   supplied for the re-issue. t like most  modelrs  it allows us to modify  them more .

Down the  raod, I will have  pics on this project. but to give  you one  step ahead. I  will modify the SeaQuest  DSV dump truck?  landing skids to make TWO  complete landing struts for two  Vipers. using the Tanks  wheels... it  will not  be 100% accurate but  the landing  gear  will be Shown....

thanks again  for the  help..... Nfpa

That's the set I used for my Viper's gear.  One thing that I found is that the drawings were ujust moved from one side to another.  When I finished  one side I had to re-think how it was drawn and reverse the gear to show the differences.

Yep, the wheels are there in the pic linked above. Think of the skids as in-line skates with a flat plate around the wheels.

Details can be found in the BSG Blueprint set, circa 1980, which includes a set of drawings of the landing gear.

no hotlinking so you need to cut and paste into a new browser window. I see the wheels on the skids right there.

Found this photo of a large studio mock up from 1979. It has skids no wheels.

The Vipers had wheels mounted inside the skids.  In a couple episodes you can see them.

When I scratch built my landing gear from a set of Galactica blueprints I used some round plastic rod set inside vinyl rings used for arm and leg joints from a Japanese model.

Actually I think the miniatures may have only had skids but the full size mockup had what looks like a skid and small skateboard wheels along the inside.

I agree- they had skids, not wheels.  When landing, they came to a stop in mid-air and gently settled down on the deck.  Anti-grav, maybe???

And I'm so old, I watched TOS when first run on TV!

I thought the Vipers from TOS had skids not wheels for the landing gear. I seem to recall some shots of them landing and they looked like they had flat skids. I could be wrong though.

help TOS viper landing gear
Posted by nfpa1002 on Saturday, August 1, 2009 12:59 AM

Hello all,

i  am trying to  find  wheels in 1/72 scale  tanks kits for the  landing  gear  for a TOS Viper  build. here  is a link to Starshipmodeler/MMI's kit:

these wheels  measure 11/32 " in diamiter .
the images show  two rows of five wheels on the rear & two rows of three on the  front  So  twenty  six wheels in total
Or? if a custom gear  set up 13  single  wheels.
So dose  any one  have a  suggestion to use a  1/72 ? or  other  tank  doner  kit   that  has  a 11/32 diamiter  wheel  track / carrage?
 thank you, Nfpa
