District 9

Just saw the movie today.  And boy it was awesome.  The story was very original and the footage was so realisticly rendered.  It's a lil on the bloody side with several scenes making me cringe but overall I haven't seen good sci-fi movies like this in years.

|possible spoiler alert|

I can't wait to build that walker in the movie, totally puts the Aliens utlility walker to shame, and reminds me of a hybrid between the warhammer 40k imperial guard sentinel and marines dreadnaught.  Hell on bipeds.

I enjoyed it too. It was nice to see a scifi movie with a good storyline.

Agreed, fellas!  This has already become one of my favorite SciFi flix of all time.  Definitely up in the Top Ten, tho I don't know where I'd place it in there.

Excellent hardware that could prolly be somewhat easily scratchbuilt by a determined modeler.

The CG was amazing.  There were a few scenes where I couldn't tell if they were talking to CG images or if it was a guy in an alien costume.  It was really good, although there are a few things I would have done differently.

Sheesh you stay up late man.  [I have excuses!! I overnapped... =P]

But yea, some of the statements made in the movie were really insensitive, which is what I believed used as a tool to set your initial hatred towards the main character. yet as the movie progresses you grow more sympathetic after being shown some of the true horrors commited by men even in real life such as weapons development, ritual cannibalism, racial prejudice, or genocide, to a point where you begin to realize that, whatever he's been doing is what this society has molded some of us to do, and feel truly fortunate we have not become the victim of something like that, so one day if we ever end up in his shoes, we can look back n not do or say some of the dumb things he tried.  That, is one reason I liked the movie.  It's not just another summer boom boom pow like GIJOE or transformers (granted I still enjoyed those two movies being an 80's baby =D).

I thought they did a good job of making you hate him, they really really did.  But that scene was just painful to watch.

One thing that made me POed was at the little jokes in the movie, the subtle thing to break up the real harshness.  The humerous breaks (like him having sex with the alien in the propaganda) wernt what POed me, but that everyonein the audiance cracked up laughing like they were at a comedy club.  When hes on the phone crying to his wife about that he didnt do it and he says about not dong any pornography with a creature... thats not something you laugh your butt off at, you know.  dont ruin the movie for others

I laughed at the pornography thing - because it was funny and intended to be such.  It was the ludicrious aspect of the picture that got me, plus the fact it showed just how far - and how low! - the MNU corporate entity would go to hamstring Wikus.  Same w/the conversation he was having w/his wife - it was just so far "out there" that it was funny.

Sorry you felt others were ruining your enjoyment of the movie, but they're supposed to suppress their joy with it, then...?

no, you can laugh, but its not something to slap your knee at, it wasnt THAT funny, and the people infront of me were doing that.  Not gona mention any specifics of what the people were... but im sure you know.

I mean, I got a chuckle out of it, but I didnt laugh out loud

Well, sorry to say it guys but I only thought the movie was OK. Probably won't watch it again as the main plot line is just so unbelievable. Space fuel can make you turn into what??

If you ignored that and some of the more pointed political overtones, the story was OK. I did like the look of the aliens and the CG was done well. The jerky camera had me reaching for the motion sickness pills. I mean, haven't they heard of a steady cam? At the beginning it is ok as it runs like a documentary but once you get past that and the camera stays that way...

So, not on my DVD buy list, I would rather watch GI Joe again.

I saw this movie last weekend and was most displeased.  $9 for this?  The movie was boring for the first half, but unfortunately by the time it appeared to get somewhat interesting I had already lost interest.  I thought there were a lot of unnecessarily squeamish sequences, I didn't like the documentary style, and I really did not like the principal character.  Wish we had gone to see Inglorious Basterds.  (And after reading several posts above, please understand that I am only posting my own thoughts on the movie, and am not trying to disparage anyone's enjoyment of this particular movie).

Well, I watched District 9 last night and thought it was a brilliant movie. Certainly not for all people though. Pretty strong language and some very gruesome scenes, but overall I thought it very well done. The CGI was perfect. The actor who played the lead was just perfect, considering that he isn't a "real" actor. He brought such believability to the role, and you couldn't help but hate him at the start.

I wonder if it did well enough at the box office for them to do a sequel?

So long folks!

We were able to stomach about 20 minutes of it and that was it.

Whatever you all saw in it past by me. I give it 2 or 3 out of 5 stars. Confused

Well, different strokes for different folks. I thought Transformers was stupid, except for the scene where Megan Fox was working on the car, then it was fascinating. Whistling

Maybe I wasn't drinking the right brew when I watched it! What did you have before seeing it Bill? Big Smile

The latest Transformers was far better from an entertainment value than this crappy movie.

I almost fell asleep in the first 15 minutes of District 9. Confused

Well, I thought the movie started slowly, too. If you still have it, fast forward about 25 minutes and try it again.

I don't drink that much, that it throws off my judgment, Mike!

Well I think you just found the crux of the biscuit.  you went in thinking you were going to find a transformers like action movie, which district 9 is not.  Its a diffrent type of movie all together, not all scifi is the same
