Bah! I say go for it! Build that puppy. The great thing about X-Wings is that they don't have "perfect" paint jobs. It can be scratched, different colors, streaks, smudges, etc and it will look great. Plus, original CC's and Salzo's are getting hard to come by. I have two of these bad boys, if you need any help along the way I'm willing to help out. The reason I did Blue Leader is I got tired of seeing everyone built as Red 5! I did not want to try and replicate a filming miniature and then get criticised that a smudge or scratch was too thin or too long or shaped wrong, etc.... I did my own thing with this!

I have the captain Cardboard version in my stash, but to be honest, I am too scared to try to build it, I have been thinking of trading it off for some kits I have been wanting.

Great job on yours, seeing the great build ups makes me figure I cannot do justice to the kit

Thanks guys. I will take more pics this weekend (bigger as well). The kit was made by Mike Salzo. Unfortunatly it is no longer in production. You can still find them on forums and ebay. But beware of recasts. This is a Version 2, the last one made was a Version 3. It had subtle differences. The kit is all resin, about 5lbs and 2 feet long with a 2 foot wingspan. The figure that was was used in the original filming miniature was a Harrier jet pilot. I replaced mine with a Hasbro "skinny" Luke X-Wing pilot action figure. However he was severly modified. I also ditched the resin R2 unit and used the plastic R2 from the ROG Jedi Starfighter snap kit. It was a fun build and my first big resin kit.

All of the red ships have been done to death and I wanted something different. I have only seen one other build up of Blue Leader. The hard part is that reference material is almost non existant, as it was never on film and repainted very soon after complition.

Wait untill you see what I have planned for my second X-Wing!

I also demand larger images.  I must say I approve non red Xwings, the blue is very cool looking on the Xwing

Very nice. Anyway you could make the images larger? I'd love to get a good look at the figure.

Blue Leader SS X-Wing

New member here. Thought I would start out by showing off my Salzo V2 SS X-Wing. Some may have seen it on other forums already but I wanted to get it on here as well. This was built from the resin Salzo V2 kit and is 2 foot long. It took me just over two months to build and was my first SS kit. I chose to go with Blue Leader as there are a lot of Red 3,4, and 5's out there. Blue Leader was never filmed and was repainted to become Red 2 in the movie. The blue markings turned out black against the blue screen.

The electronics were done by me and not a store bought kit. There a 10mm Jumbo Super Bright LEDs in each engine. A single white 5mm LED supplys light to numerous strands of fiber optic in the cockpit. Tamiya clears were used for the different colors. The R2 unit is also lit by a LED and more fiber optics. Rare Earth magnets hold down the strip behind R2. This panel covers access to the battery pack and the on/off switch.

Well enough rambling from me. Enjoy the pictures.

Sorry for the blurry pic on this one. I will be doing a new set soon with a proper back drop.
