Organ player horror model?
Posted by Aaronw on Sunday, October 4, 2009 6:00 PM

I remember building a kit when I was a little kid, maybe 7 or 8 (so probably 1974-76) of a guy playing an organ and there was a monster that would spring out of a hiding place in the organ making the player leap back or throw his arms up. I think it was called something like play it again sam.

Does that ring any bells for anyone? I also built a King Kong and Godzilla with glow in the dark parts around the same time. I thought it might have been an old Aurora kit but the recent re-issues of their old horror kits don't look like the same kind of stuff being mostly static displays.

This was one of my first models so I've been really curious to know more about it.

AaronW, lucky for you, I still have a lot of comics from that time period. (I was 9 in 1974.) I'll have to go through my collection, but I know exactly the kit you're talking about, as it was advertised in a number of them, including Walt Disney's original Pirates of the Carribean series.

Okay, how about this? MPC produced four Haunted Mansion kits in 1974: The Vampire's Midnight Madness; Play It Again, Sam; Grave Robber's Reward; and Escape From The Crypt.

That's it thanks. With Round 2 having the MPC molds and bringing back many old sci-fi kits maybe there is a chance this will get re-issued.

I might learn toward no on the re-release, mainly because its a disney kit and I assume they would need permission.

The detail on the organ is quite nice in that kit, to bad the majority of the other stuff would need replacing.
