Starting the large Fantastic Plastic Battlestar Pegasus...
Posted by a6m5zerosen on Saturday, November 28, 2009 12:05 AM
I just got a large scale Battlestar Pegasus from Fantastic Plastic. It's a little over 2 feet long when finished. I've never built a completely resin kit before-has anyone built this thing, and, if so, any tips, pitfalls to watch out for, etc?  This thing is huge, & will be very heavy when complete.  Will it need any internal structuarl reinforcement?

I was thinking about doing that, but where did you find the kit? When I go to Fantastic Plastics website, the only Pegasus I can find it the 1/9600 scale that says it is 9.5" long.

This is very good for a resin kit-almost no pinholes or voids, and very good detail throughout.  It would be difficult to light it well, though.

That's actually not available thru Fantastic Plastic, nor has it been for well over a year now.  Look for BamBamProductions BlogSpot - or something like that - to find where you can purchase it directly.

For building any big (heavy) resin kit its always smart to use pinning for the larger pieces.

Line up the parts, drill holes in the center of each part and either glue wire or if it's really heavy, I use nails with no heads (something like finishing nails)  gluing it with 2 part epoxy.

Thanks for the input-how practical would it be to light this model?  Is this do-able at all?  I would think this would be very difficult to do properly, from the look of the parts.
