New rerelease of the ST:TMP Vulcan shuttle...
Posted by a6m5zerosen on Saturday, December 5, 2009 1:23 PM
Has anybody seen one of these yet? Supposedly it has some new tooling on certain parts.  Does anyone know of an accurate painting referece for this vessel?  On the big screen it looked sort of copperish, but the studio model looks bluish grey.

The starship modeller website says it's not available until January. The picture on their site shows both color schemes:

I'm not sure how accurate it is, but I prefer the copper/brownish version.

So does this mean they will be retooling a releasing more of their trek line?

Hope so, cause I have an airbrush this time round :)

I know that there is an upcoming rerelease of the old K-7 space station in a tin collector's box.  My last trip to the hobby shop I noticed the old Mr. Spock kit with the snakes in a tin box as well. Check out www.culttvman.com & go into the hobbyshop for some really cool limited run kits available on his site.  Check out Don's Light & Magic at www.dlmparts.com for some really cool stuff, too, as well as www.starshipmodeler.com.

There is also an upcoming re-release of the old AMT glow in the dark "Interplanetary UFO Mystery Ship" (which, while not really associated with "Star Trek", was designed by Matt Jeffries, who also designed the original TV Enterprise) and was often marketed and displayed with the "Star Trek" line in the 1970s.  This itself was a rehash of the old "Leif Ericson" kit from the 60s, which was the first of a proposed "Strategic Space Command" series.  Update on the Vulcan Shuttle-the new release will have magnets in it to hold & allow the removal of the detachable upper shuttle pod, some newly tooled parts, and a full set of "aztec" decals.

There is an article/interview with Andy Probert on the Round 2 site, where he discusses the apparent disparity between the colour of the filming model and its appearance on the screen: http://www.round2models.com/articles/probert-interview

He was not very happy with the colour as it appeared in the film. Whistling

Great! I missed it the first time around and nope not going to pay big bucks for it on ebay.

I'd be willing to pick up K-7 too. Any word on the other old AMT kits like the Romulan BoP and the shuttlecraft?

And after Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle stated that the MacArthur and Lenin in 'The Mote in God's Eye' were based off the old Leif Erikson kit I've wanted to pick one up to do as a CoDominion ship.

Thanks for the link to the Probert interview, Phil

Very cool and very informative... Per the article, I know that Andy did not like the color shift in the film, but I always liked the coppery-gold look of the Vulcan shuttle in the film...  Then again, I always liked the way the Enterprise looked up on screen as well --- to me it had cool a natural-metal/silver look to it on the big screen as well, also different from the shades of gray it was painted.

Thanks again,|Phil!

Regards and Aloha,

Johnny B.

Not exaclty Star Trek, but...thr reissue of the old AMT "Interplanetary UFO Mystery Ship" hit the hobby shop shelves yesterday-I picked up two at less than $20 apiece-(while happily NOT thinking about how much I paid for a mint sealed 1970s issue of this kit last year on Ebay).  This is actually a rehash of the older AMT "Leif Ericson" and this reissue has some-but not all-of the original issue Leif Ericson parts.  Resin "engine spinners" are available from Federation Models.
