Dredging this one up from the depths for a question:

Would you think this to have interest as a kit in 1K scale?

How about scaled up to 1/350th or to match the older AMT kits?

Just wondering and thinking aloud.

Thanks in advance!Smile

A fine piece of work! In my opinion,an elegant design that's been captured by a master craftsman.

BRAVO!! Well done Sir! Bow DownWow

Any chance of this beauty being done in 1/350? Geeked

And finally, the defelctor lighting added in. This clip shows everything so if you only want to view one (for download time), just peek at this one.

Getting back to your question Swanny- here's what the workbench project looks like in place with power applied.

A lil video clip of the nacelle lights doing their thing. It's hosted in Photobucket and it's the first video I've bothered to upload?

http://s187.photobucket.com/albums/x66/DuxWerx/NCC%201000/?action=view&current=100_1259.flv

The navlights were LEDs placed where they "belonged" but to facilitate casting I've since ground them down flush and will install cutdown kit clear pieces with colored bases over their placement. What you see here are the flat exposed lights prior to the "domes" being put on.

Swanny,

Yes, those ten lil LEDs ride a common hub used as the ground and then are controlled by a 4017 decade counter with 555 timer. And they all fit nicely within the inside dome of the nacelle.

Woody,

I have a bit of a "problem" with finalizing this as I would have- since it's been revised to become the master for casting I will install the lights, snap some pics/video, but then remove all of that. To avoid having to also strip final weathering and decaling- I simply won't be doing that on this one. Once mold making is done, if this "master" survives the process I'll finish it off. If not, I'll be modifying the resin kits to house the electronics and then post one of those. Either way, they'll be a "break" in progress right after the lights on display are posted.

And thanks gents for following along and the kind words.Wink

So much to look forward to! I know that a casting pattern isn't a finished model but I'm keenly interested in your master and then seeing one of the resulting kits built up. Thanks for all the info and photos.

I can't wait to see this one all buttoned up and painted! Are you going to shoot some video of the lights?

You do the coolest stuff. Are those home made LED packages in the nacelles?

Thanks Griff. While some have told me that they also loved this one at first sight I'm also glad to hear others say it's now growing on them too!

And moving towards turning on the lights here are the some of the components getting stuffed into the 1/1000 ship. There are 10 LED chasers that go into each nacelle and then the timer for the blinking navlights as well as the color shifting LED up behind the deflector. The LEDs for navlights, hangar bay dome light, bridge and sensor domes are already buried within the model.

Nice!  I often wondered how this would look "all fleshed out" and am totally impressed by your work, Don.  Not that I wasn't before, mind you....

I like this design as it sort of seems a bridge between the NX-01 and TOS Constitution-class of ships.  Those details are sweet, too!

Woody,

Do you have a link? I'm curious, still.

And, thanks for the kind words.Cool

Yes, Here are a couple links. The first shows a trek book, "Vanguard".

The second reference shows the ship I believe inspired the cover art ship.

I'd ask him but he is a Klingon, and rather mad at that too?Super Angry I'll just leave it be.Huh?

I looked it up and it's a different ship. Much smaller than the Bonaventure but a very cool little ship in it's own right. Great progress by the way!

Continuing with some refinements I cut the lil 'indentions' that flank the nose up front. Oddly, there are more than one version of the picture which made it into the Hard Cover SOTL calendar compilation. One has these indentations while another does not, showing flat faced panels? I chose the one published in the book for some added visual interest.

The Polar Lights Enterprise TOS has several bridge domes to choose from but the Bonaventure has what I'll call the 'Reliant or refit' style extended bridge with dome. Started out by laminating some styrene together to get a big enough block to carve the overall shape from. Also turned down the smooth top bridge dome kit piece to fit within it.

My money is on the Vanguard. Nice design. I thought about building one myself.

So it is the Vanguard...right. Looking good my friend.

Since the "forum upgrade" are other viewers seeing 'scrambled script' from prior posts? I hope that somehow just goes away or that it's not just my eyes?

Anyhooooo....

With the electronics squared away it's moving through prep for paint.

Thank you Woody.

BTW: Folks- we have a winner in identifying the ship! None other than Woody who contacted me by PM.

Okay, only a mystery for right now but I'm getting back to an ST project inspired by a ship only seen at that time in a Ships of the Line Calendar.

The nacelles each hold electronics for a ten LED "chaser" circuit to be seen behind the Bussard domes. The ship also has blinking nav-lights and a lit bridge, rear "hangar" beacon and sensor dome. The stand carries the power while the base hides a microswitch, allowing the craft to be removable.

Progress to follow.
