I'd suggest some kind of light blue/duck egg blue mix for the main "trim" color and duck egg blue for some plating detail for those blue sections.

I'm gradually working on the regular Excelsior myself ( put it aside for a while because the puttying and sanding on the saucer's underside was driving me crazy ), and was planning on adding some varietyand texture to the blue sections this way ( with a little less green mixed in than the 1701-B needs ) as well as some light gray plating in various shades to add a random element to the aztec similar to what I've seen on the studio mini.

I saw one that used the white and blue but in an Aztec pattern that was fantastic.  The white was flat, semi gloss and a third white I don't recall. An off white maybe, leaning towards a blue tinge.

I find that post-shading of any kit can give the paint a bit more depth, and can make it appear more lifelike. The post shading represents the shadows that occur on large objects, but don't on small things. The trick is to get these scale shadows to look right - smaller objects have harsher contrasts, larger ones (like the Big E) have more subtle color differences.

Enterprise-B color, weathering?

Hey guys,

Do you have any tips on how to paint the Enterprise-B Excelsior class so it doesn't look so toy like?  It seems like the white and duck egg blue make it look to clean and toy like.   Maybe darker colors, or weathering?  Not really sure.  Any tips would be helpful....
