Did they get the idea from the Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer?  Can't wait for the models :)

I heard years ago that they were working on the concept of trimaran designs for ships, but I missed that they'd actually launched one!

It does seem to have a little bit of a Star Destroyer look to it.  Maybe we should keep an eye on Senator Byrd, just in case ( he looks a lot like Senator Palpatine in eps 2 and 3, meant as a joke and not any kind of political commentary ). 

Another real-life sea vessel it reminds me of ( and, I'd say, could be considered a kind of ancestor or something ) if you ignore the extension of the bow is the Sea Shadow.

The US Navy has actually been trialling a number of multi-hull designs. LCS-2 is actually more closely related to the HSV series, which are high-speed transport/support vessels  (also of Australian design) capable of 60+ knots.
